Recurrent belly button pain... what could this be??
Several months ago I had severe sharp pain in my belly button. It hurt to stand up straight and eventually, it even hurt to sit and lie down. It woke me up at night and left me walking around bent over, holding my naval area. I ended up going to the ER where they did a CTScan and told me that it wasn't appendicitis and sent me home with pain killers. The pain continued for another day or so and then one morning I woke up and noticed that the pain was much less severe. I looked into my belly button and saw puss inside it. The puss drained all day (I helped it along with hydrogen peroxide) and the pain went away. I assumed I had an absess that had popped. By the time I made it to my doctor, it was pretty much cleared up and he had no idea what the problem had been anyway.
I haven't had anything that severe since then, but my belly button pain has returned several times in the last few months. Each time it lasts for a week or two and is moderately painful. I have never been able to find the source of the problem... seems like it must be something deep inside my belly button. Fortunately, each time since the initial incident, it has cleared up without becoming as severe.
In the last few days, my belly button pain has returned. It hurts enough to interrupt my sleep at night and once again, I'm left wondering what in the world is causing this problem. I feel like I should go back to my doctor, but I'm afraid he'll think I'm crazy because he won't be able to see anything from the outside.
Anyone know what this could be??? Should I return to my doctor and ask to see some sort of specialist and if so, what kind of doctor deals with this sort of problem???
