What are the most common causes of death in the U.S. / World?

What diseases are the biggest threats --- in order?

is it:

1) Heart Disease
2) Cancer


etc. etc.

The biggest causes of death in the USA i think are

1.smoking
2. obesity this will be #1 in a couple more years.


but yea i think heart problems would be the #1 killer, then all cancers.

I would think doctor-hospital mistakes would be in the top ten reasons why people die.

In Developed Countries:
1. Ischemic heart disease
2. Cerebrovascular disease
3. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
4. Lower respiratory infections [pneumonia]
5. Trachea/bronchus/lung cancers
6. Road traffic accidents
7. Stomach cancer
8. Hypertensive heart disease
9. Tuberculosis
10. Self-inflicted

In Developing Countries:
1. HIV/AIDS
2. Lower respiratory infections
3. Ischemic heart disease
4. Diarrheal diseases
5. Cerebrovascular disease
6. Childhood diseases
7. Malaria
8. Tuberculosis
9. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
10. Measles

Cerebrovascular disease = conditions that affect brain artery health - Fatty deposits that lead to obstructive stroke, or aneurysms which rupture and cause death.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease = emphysema/chronic bronchitis. In both diseases, there is chronic obstruction of the flow of air through the airways and out of the lungs, and the obstruction generally is permanent and progressive over time. Asthma is not included in the COPD category, because the lung obstruction from it is reversible and not permanent - that is, between attacks of asthma, lung function returns to normal.
