Recently I have contracted some sort of virus or something. My left lymph node is swollen, and hurts if I turn my neck too far in one direction, or if I push on it. The left side of my throat is also very sore, and swollen, probably due to the lymph node there.

I've only been sick for 2 or three days, but last night I go chills so I layed in my bed, and about half an hour later I got really hot and had a fever of 38.94 degrees celcius.

Sometimes I get periods where I am really tired, and then they go away. I doubt this is mono, only because I have had it twice in the past, and have heard that getting it more than once is uncommon.

Anyone have any ideas?

You are right, it is some sort of virus or something. Usual stuff, rest, drink lots of water, analgesics, see the doc. Sooner rather than later if you suspect mono or something like that.

I'm getting very worried, because I had just read the symptoms of acute HIV infection, and I have some of the symptoms. I know the symptoms are common among MANY other infections, but the fact that my left lymph node, and only my left, is swollen, really worries me.

I had a test for HIV (and others) in december, and i'm pretty sure they were negative, considering there was no call back, but HIV can still develop months later. If I have HIV, there is a large chance I could have given it to my current partner, and if thats the case, I don't think i would be able to live with myself any longer...

I goto the doctor tommorow so get assessed.

Can you find out from your doctor what the test results are? He will phone the lab or whatever, won't he? I understand the test will find out if you have the virus, and if it is negative and you don't have the virus, then it won't progress into full HIV/AIDS. I must admit, my first thoughts are a throat infection, where one lymph node can quite easily be up on its own. Hope you are fine, Sera.

In all honesty, it probably is nothing more than a throat infection or an ear infection. Just leave it to me to expect the worse of things
