potassium & lying down

My endocrinologist put me on a diuretic (Lasix) due to water retention caused by hormonal problems while waiting for the bloodwork to come back. He also put me on a potassium supplement (Klor-con), I assume to keep from getting low potassium while using the diuretic.

On the potassium bottle, there is a warning not to lie down within 30 minutes of taking the potassium pill. Does anyone know why?

Re: potassium & lying down

Potassium is very irritating and can burn the esophagus. Best to stay upright until the potassium has a chance to empty from the stomach.

Always take potassium with food to avoid stomach irritation. I always took potassium after a meal.
