Smelling Smoke - General Health Message Board

I have been smelling smoke (Cigarette Smoke to be precise) for a little over a year now and it is driving me mad. I do not smoke and no one in my house smokes. It keeps me up at night and it distracts me at work, anyone have any idea what may be causing this?

Or items or things in your house that belonged to a smoker...

It's a very common side effect of having a sinus infection. You should go see an ear, nose and throat specialist. Medications can also do it. They can affect your sense of smell. If the docs can't find anything they might want to do an mri scan. But most likely it's either a sinus infection or something you're taking.

As stated before, No one in my house smokes, and I have been living in my house now for over 3 years and the smell just started about a year ago. I can smell a smoker from a mile away because i do not smoke. Thanks for the input adamace1...

I have also read that phantom smells can potentially be a sign of a brain tumor. I'm not entirely positive, but I think that's mostly the perfumey type smells. But if the ENT can't help you, it might be worth it to consult with a neurologist. Maybe get a brain scan.
