You should ask this question in the Back Problems forum. I've been lurking there for the last month since I started experiencing the dreaded L4/L5 sciatic nerve pinch, which is what it sounds like you might be experiencing symptoms of. There are a lot of people who can give you advice there.
My hip also gives me problems now, alternately but mostly on the left. I've been seeing a chiropractor and it's been helping slowly, but I have yet to see an actual spine doc (which I should do).
Personally I would say that you should be evaluated by a specialist before your problem gets very serious. Spine compression and resulting damaged discs and pinched nerves all seem to take a very, very long time to heal (I have been comparatively immobile for more than a month), if at all. You don't want to be in that situation if you can avoid it.
