Question Scabbing in Belly Button

I recently found a small scab inside my belly button, but I'm almost positive I haven't had any injuries in that area recently. I picked at the scab and it did not bleed, but some of the scab is unreachable.

Is this normal and/or safe?

Thank you for your time.

Re: Scabbing in Belly Button

I clean by belly button with baby oil and a Q-tip. Or you can use a some sea salt in luke warm water. Swish them up in a cup and place the cup over your belly button. Shake the cup to make the water go in and out to clean it.

Re: Scabbing in Belly Button

I pour peroxide in the belly button to clean it out. I lay on the bed, pour some in and let it foam, then wipe it out. If it's a scab, it will fall off when it's served it's purpose....

I had what you described. In my case, it was a fungal infection and I was prescribed an anti-fungal cream. Now to prevent this I pour some baby cornstarch powder (not talc!) in my navel after a shower.

Hi neshcom. Not to gross you out but make sure it is not a tick. They are small and often look like a scab. Ticks often attach in places like the belly button, inner thigh, behind the ear etc.

The only safe way to remove a tick is with tweezers, by grasping the mouthparts and pulling straight back. Save the tick, it can be tested for disease at IgeneX Lab in Palo Alto, CA.

It was definately a scab. It was really round, but it was a scab.

It's been a few days and after using some peroxide, it seems to be healing. It isn't spreading, so I think I'm in the clear, but I don't know if that's even relevant here.

Re: Scabbing in Belly Button

Bacteria can cause tissue to form scabs anywhere on the body. Like streptomyces it's a bacteria that's common. A scab does not have not be hard and thick and dark it can be thin, soft thin and light colored.
