Can something wrong happen when you get your foot numb many days?

My right foot goes numb everynight when i sleep. And also after i sit a while at the toilet. Not if i sit in regular seats but only in toilet or when i sleep.

Went to podiatrist and he said it could be my psyotic nerve( Don't know spelling). i've have crooked spine slightly cause of leg length difference and have had lower back and hip problems since kid. But just starting this year i've noticed many nights my foot goes numb.

But i've been wondering.. i forgot to ask the doc.. but any of you know, if you get your foot real numb.. can something inside rip or t ear or what can go wrong? Sometimes my foot is really numb i feel like it's not even attached. Nothing has ever happened because always goes to normal but i hope nothing worse happens

I think he's probably talking about your sciatic nerve. That's a common problem for those with back problems, so it's not surprising to hear that you have had spine issues. Is this a new problem? You should probably make an appointment with an orthopedic specialist. I don't know if you can have permanent damage by waiting too long to get it dealt with, but you could certainly step on it wrong and cause damage to tendons or step on something and not realize it because it's numb. There may be some easy treatment to would help you, perhaps some PT and a good home exercise program to strenghten your core muscles.

I wish you the best!

Re: Can something wrong happen when you get your foot numb many days?

considering the way your legs are, this would really throw off your entire lower and upper torso as well.have you ever actually had an MRI done on the lower back area?this could reveal any possible nerve compression issues going on or herniated discs.once your legs are off with regards to length, well,it can cause problems within any of the hip, knee and other weight bearing joints, along with areas of the spine that would also be affected.my father had alot of low back problems and knee issues, along with numbness and tingling form the nerve affectation just from having one leg that was about an inch and a half shorter than the other.an MRI for you at this point could just reveal the bigger issues within your spine area.your symptoms just fit with low back nerve affectation to some degree, you just need to find out exactly what those problem areas are.then i would see the ortho for a full evaluation along with bringing your MRIs.your primary doc can refer you for the MRI.i wish you luck.hopefully things are not yet too bad and can be fixed before permanent nerve damage takes place.please keep us posted on how things are going,K?
