Question facial swelling????

My mom has had swelling under her eyes and on her eyelids for 3 weeks now. It seems to be worse in the mornings. She went to the doctor but they said they didn't know what it could be because she has no itching or pain and is on no meds. Anyone ever experianced this? what could it be???

Re: facial swelling????

Too much salt (sodium) in her diet may be causing fluid retention. If the swelling is worse in the morning when she wakes up, this may be the cause.

She still could have an allergy to something, maybe a night cream she uses on here face, new sheets, or many other things. You can have allergy problems without itching.

She should do a process of elimination in order to find an offending allergy.

Re: facial swelling????

she hasn't tried anything new. and puts nothing on her face, due to sensitive skin. Would too much salt just effect your face? or would you be bloated everywhere?

Re: facial swelling????

That happens to me whenever I have to much salt. Puffy eyes and my fingers get puffy too....hard to wear rings that normally fit. I Love salt but unfortunately I must avoid it. Also, alcohol caused puffy eyes like crazy! I have since quit drinking and limit salt and haven't had the problem at all. And even though it isn't itchy she still could be allergic to something. It happens to my mom if she eats tomatoes or tuna fish!???? Weird but true. Try an over-the-counter antihistamine and see if it works, it's worth a try. They have claritin ready tabs that just melt in your mouth and work quickly. Kinda expensive though. Just ask the pharmacist they may have suggestions too. Good luck!

Oh yeah and I heard preparation H helps swelling on the eyes...normally used for the bum but people swear by it!

Re: facial swelling????

has she had any labs run on her metabolics?swelling like this can in some cases be stemming from something, like an kidneys or liver issue or imbalance of other things.the older we get,the more likely we can have problems with body system function.she really should just get an overall check up with basic labwork done just to see how things are functioning.it could reveal a problem somewhere that needs to be found out.this is just something you do when you have something kind of 'odd" just show up.i would really get her in for that look over and bloodwork soon.you can either rule something in or a whole lot of other things out ya know?i hope this is nothing, please keep us posted, FB
