Rectal/ anal pain going on 3-4 weeks is scaring me to death!
I'll be blunt:
Recently I slept with someone approximately two months ago (and used a condom) who has colitis (I don't know what kind she has, but now I understand that C. Difficile colitis is contagious, supposedly.) She told me that what she has is not contagious.. i don't know what she knows, if it is any good or truth at this point.
I am very concerned that I somehow caught this disease from her. And if it is not that, then there is definitely something else and i need to get it checked out ASAP.
I am scared that i have let this go so long!! 3-4 weeks at least now of intermittant pain.
Not much i can say, it just feels like my rectum is swollen and very sore. It must be an infection or something much worse, like I am sitting right on top of an intrusive object all of the time. Weeks before the pain reappeared consistently, there was one night i could not sleep because I had a sharp pain in my bowels.. it was a little different feeling and higher up into my bowels, but much stronger pain.
From what i understand, and also since i am only 32, having rectal/anal pain would not likely be the result of a cancer.
This seems to be getting worse, and i need to see a doctor ASAP. Can someone please share their thoughts with me on this?
sorry i double posted this, i could figure out how to delete the first one..

Tony, are you sure you don't have hemorrhoids? They tend to feel that way. Also, if you have colitis I think it can be treated with antibiotic's. I don't think you need to freak. Just go to the doctor. I'd start with your regular family physician or an internal med doctor. Chances are it is nothing serious but I'd get to the doctor asap to ease your worries.

Hi sounds like you have your self a case of prostatitis, you said you used a condom so it may be possible you touched the tip of your penis after removing it and yes colitis can travel up your uretha and infect the prostate gland? It hurts to set, to do a bowel movement,a deep painful ache while laying down, fatigued and at times pain urinating.Remember the prostate gland is in between the rectum wall and your scrotum, usually the discomfort will feel like it's coming from the inside the rectum.I'm not saying it is prostatitis but what you describe sounds like it, your family doctor or a urologist can diagnose it with a rectal exam which consist of sticking his finger in your rectum to feel the size of the prostate and with a simple urine test and if not treated with antibiotics it can spread to the bladder.Be sure to tell your doctor what went on or the same as you told us so he/she can properly diagnose you.Warm soaks also help. I've had it and it hurts!!!!Post your results. Best of luck

Re: Rectal/ anal pain going on 3-4 weeks is scaring me to death!
I really appreciate your help, but i shouldn't see a general or "family doctor" first (i hope you know my problems are financial as well):
1) i don't have one.. no medical insurance!.. and
2) a general or family doctor will just refer me to a different doctor (in other words, I really want to clear this up in one visit... not two or three.
It sounds like maybe a urologist would be good, or is this not specific enough? Am I not specific enough?
This might sound opinionated, but i don't believe there is such thing as a "local referral" system.. unless you're talking about something more simple like a dentist. Perhaps the information I can obtain from knowledegable people on the internet is even better.
I say you just go to whichever/wherever doctor when you need one...
If you get a bad doctor, you move on to a different one and hope that
they are a better one.. If you get a good one.. you stop looking.

Hi, there are options like the medicade programs for those who have no insurance and I have it because of financial issues, you just have to go and try, usually you will have to be referred to a urologist or in general any specialist after being seen by a regular doctor,it sucks but that's the system. The ER never turns people away insurance or not, that's also an option for a quick diagnosis
Re: Rectal/ anal pain going on 3-4 weeks is scaring me to death!
ER is best option. When you are tight on money, you need a quick answer, and your situation has enough components to make it at least SEEM urgen..go there. Its a good enough reason to go to the ER..they will find out within minutes what you have..likley tell you its hemmerhoids, or maybe have to give you antiobiotics..and you will be on your way..mind cleared and feeling good.
Re: Rectal/ anal pain going on 3-4 weeks is scaring me to death!
ha ha , okay thank you,
last time i went to the "ER" they told me what was wrong but gave me a bill for $1,600 dollars! (and that's without any kind of treatment) So no thanks.. I think most are right about the hemhorroids. I'm just afraid that if i let them go to long i won't be able to make them go away. And i'm also wondering, since i have to sit down all the time, at work and at home how could i ever keep them from coming back! seems i have few options, though thanks.

eat a diet rich in fruits and veggies and fiber to make bowel movements effortless. any straining done will only make them worse and prolong your recovery. try taking warm baths at night and then putting cream on.

Hi there, I'm new to this community myself, but I thought I'd add my input.
First of all, it really sounds like you have hemmorhoids, and the idea of using an OTC cream is good, can't hurt....you could try some witch hazel pads as well, they are in the same section.
However, if you don't get some relief fairly soon, you should see a doctor.
Yes, you do have to be seen at the ER if you show up, but 1) you end up waiting 12 or so hrs, plus 2) you still get socked w/a big bill.
Better idea. Why not try a local Internal Med or Family Practice doc and just pay for the visit. They will not refer you to another doc, as you have no one to be referred to. They can, however and will, do an exam to check for hemmorhoids, which by the way, may be internal or external.
And the office visit alone should cost around/under $100. Any bloodwork, prescriptions, etc will cost more.
