Blood in stool

Other than problems with your colon, what other reasons could there be with having blood in your stool? I had the colonoscopy but it turned up clean. I now have to go for an upper GI and a lower bowel series.

Re: Blood in stool

if you actually had a totally clean colonoscopy(congrats by the way) the only other things that i can think of,and i have had this happen in the past, would be hemorhoids or if the stool was a bit too hard,it can sometimes cause a tiny little tear in the anal area.it heals right back up but it is enough to show actual bright red blood on the toilet paper or in your stool.those would be my best guesses. Re: Blood in stool

If you have an internal fissure, you can have blood in your stools. Also, if you have internal hemorhoids you can have blood in your stools. The question you need to be ask is what color is the blood? Bright or dark? Bright means that you have a fresh bleed...Dark means that you have an old bleed.

Re: Blood in stool

Per the doc, I don't have hemmeroids. There is no visable blood in my stool. Because I am having problems going, he asked for a stool sample for 5 days straight. It only showed up in the test so I figure its not very much. I hope I am not wasting my time on all of these tests and worrying for nothing.
