Hand Spasms

I have a rather odd problem that, very honestly, doesn't effect much in my life but is incredibly painful. I've had the problem for about five years, give or take. It only pops up a few times a week, but that's enough to be an annoyance. What happens is that I will lose all control of my hand, and the muscles "spasm" and contract and my thumb is drawn in toward the palm and the fingers are flexed and pulled out. It looks like I have cerebral palsy on one side, for lack of a better way to put it, and it's incredibly painful. It usually goes away after about twenty minutes, but until it does I'm unable to move or use my hand, it's very annoying. Does anyone know what causes this?

Re: Hand Spasms

It could be a repetitive strain injury if you do a lot of work with your hand like typing, knitting, etc. any repetitive motion could cause it. The medical term for it is tenosynovitis (inflammation of the tendon and tendon sheath), I know because I have it, but my hand hasn't acted up so much since I have retired and don't overuse it.

Be careful if you are diagnosed with repetitive strain injury, and don't overuse your hand.

Good luck!
