i few days ago i got the news that i have to get an MRI on my brain ...to find out what is the cause of my problems that I've for nearly 2 years now... i have to say that i am very pleased to finally have to get an MRI done ...its been so long over due To say the least i hope that they can find something sounds strange i know but that would be the explanation to the painful and unplesant hell i have been living.I will have to put up with everything for another whole year that's how long the waiting list is in Vancouver. If i went for a private MRI that would cost me $950.00
...Im just wondering if you could provide me with info...what types of things are looked for in an "MRI" of the brain things that could be detected !
...Are there any informative websites to check out ?
Hi , Yes there are websites, but we're not allowed to post them. You can do a search on MRI on this board.
Mri usually pick up anything Neurological.
Weather it be too many headaches, migraines, MS, tumors, etc...
For me i have one every year. I do have MS so it checked weather its getting worse with lesions that form in the brain. But they also do MRI scans on yr spine.
Depends what your doctor is looking for. Each person is obvious different.
If i may, why is it that yr having one done ?? Either way i hope you get your answers. Two years is a long time to not know whats wrong with you.
GG is right in what she stated about what they can find with an MRI.i am hoping they are actually using a contrast agent with this?it just shows up the more 'hidden' structures within the brain so much better, espescially the vascular sturctures.i have had quite a few MRIs and MRAs done on my brain along with angiograms once my brain aneurysm was discovered.do they have any idea yet as to what may be causing your symptoms?what exactly are you feeling which prompted the MRI in the first place?it is a good way of looking for possible problems.glad you are getting one, just make certain they use contrast at some point to show everything more clearly.it can just find certain problems that do not always show themselves well on plain MRI(my particular brain aneurysm just did not show itself with plain MRI because of its location).just talk to your doc and see what he has Rxed for your scan.please let us know how things go,K?there is a really good brain issue board here on this site that has alot of info for you and some good knowledgable people there.its just a scroll on down from here.check it out. good luck, FB

GlamourGirl ty for responding What you have told me has helped me out a lot I am sorry to hear about your MS. I have heard that there are different types or forms of MS i really have not done to much research about it kind of afraid to, i guess. Acousin of mine has MS...i dont have a clue if its genetic or not ...but i suppose it wouldnt hurt to look into it a litte more.GlamourGIrl just to let you know i posted another message in re: to what has prompted my MRI please read if ya feel like it when you get the chance thought id make it simple so everybody else can read it to
FeelBad....tyvm for responding Sorry to hear about your brain anyerism in my life ive known a few people that have had anyerism's some have been luckier then others to say the least ....i hope things are alright for you. I have to say that the use of a contrast agent sounds intresting and very hopeful i will politley but firmly request that my doc does it that way.... can iask or is it at his discretion? i would feel more secure and a heck of alot better if it was done with the contrast agent ....seems more promising then to have an MRI with out it !Also you mentioned something called an Angiogram ...is that related to an MRA....i always "assumed" that an angiogram was a heart test...so what is an Angiogram ?...and a MRA? Just to make it simple to answer your question to what prompted my MRIi posted another message in General Health !
