Could I have hurt my ankle worse than I thought?

10 days ago I was running and my footing wasn't good my ankle bent inward (so that my food was inbetween my legs and I fell hard.

I thought at the very first that I might have broke it, the next day it was very much in pain if I tried to bend it at all, but if I actually stood up straight and put my foot down straight it wasn't all that painful. After a couple days the pain subsided besides a dull ache and a sharp pain right at the "knuckle" of the ankle.

For a few days I thought it was getting better, but towards the end of the week I started noticing the pain wasn't subsiding in fact it felt like it was getting a bit worse (the dull ache) and it itches... it also feels highly pressurized. I'm also noticing this weekend that it's swollen at the "knuckle"

So after 10 days

-I can walk on it, but it's still swore and actually feels like it's getting more sore than it was at the first part of this week.
-I can't lay it down on the knuckle side without a sharp pain
-It's swollen and it itches at times.
-It feels pressurized.

I would have thought that if I broke or fractured it, I wouldn't be able to walk on it...but if I didn't it should be getting better by now right?

What should I do?

Re: Could I have hurt my ankle worse than I thought?

I did what you did and I was walking on it ...it was painful and not getting better but I didn't go in to the doctor until a few days when it seemed it was getting a bit worse. Anyway, simple x-ray showed I had fractured it and the treatment was to put a long boot/shoe type brace to the knee with velcro closures to be worn for 8 weeks or until healed and that's about how long it took. medications were pain pills and anti inflammatory. Good luck to you.
