Can meditation replace sleep?
I have been meditating intensively for roughly 2 years now, I am completely self-taught and can attain very deep meditative states for long periods of time without falling asleep. I enjoy it very much, and have noticed many benefits. One of the major benefits being an increase in conscious awareness. My problem however is that because of this, I find it hard to get to sleep. My mind just doesn't want to turn off at night, or rather it doesn't need to. I have heard from someone that it is indeed possible and actually preferable to meditate over night rather than sleep, although they couldn't offer any hard evidence. I was hoping there may be a doctor or someone else qualified in this area of expertise who may be able to answer this question.
Thanks.
