Hi everyone, im hoping that someone can help me, i didnt know where to post this so hope it is the right place. It is a long story so please bear with me. I had a baby 4 months ago now and that is basically when all my problems started, i hemorraged at birth and lost 2 n a half litres of blood, my iron levels were low for a while but picked up fairly quickly and are back to normal now so i know the pain i am experiencing isnt due to anemia. About 2 weeks after my son was born i started experiencing slight chest discomfort which continued for about 4 weeks until i was woken at night with excruciating pain in my upper abdomen right the way along under my breasts, i couldnt breath and felt like i was having a heart attack ( I am only 19 though), I rushed to ER where they did no tests at all, told me it was acid reflux caused by GERD, gave me mylanta and anesthetic in a cup, which i drank and the pain seemed to die off a bit, they prescribed me something called somac which is for reflux and all those sorts of things which i took for 3 weeks and it didnt help at all, so i returned back to the ER when the pain was getting a bit worse and more consistent again and this time they actually ran some blood tests, hooked me up to the ECG and sent me off for an ultrasound (this all happened about 2 n a half months after the pain started), where they found gallstones, about 5 of them 3mm in diameter, all the other tests came back normal. So i was referred to a specialist who took a month to get into and am now booked in to get my gallbladder out. However in that time i had to go into ER again with bad chest pain that lasted all night, and they did an x ray which also came back fine. The chest pain keeps happening and ranges from my neck down to my lower abdomen and radiate through to my back (although not all the time), it is often in the left hand side of my chest and i sometimes experience pins and needles in my left hand aswell. I also have tenderness right under my ribs in the centre of my upper abdomen. I experience nausea every now and then and all these symptoms together are very distressing! Even more recently i have been getting numbness in my left foot and big toe, and even a little cramping in my lower right side of my abdomen and what feels like numbness.. alot of these symptoms can be put down to gallstones but im not so sure as i have others that dont seem to relate and im really worried that they are just putting it down to the easiest thing they can find. I visited my GP about the numbness in my toe and he put it down to being unrelated and a pinched nerve, but now i am getting discomfort in my lower abdomen too? I also have a large varicose vein behind my knee on my left leg which again could be unrelated but thought i would mention it. They have told me it all sorts of things and cant seem to make a certain decision, first it was GERD, then costochondritis ( even though my chest wall isnt tender to touch) and now gallstones. The pain comes and goes, sometimes i have really good weeks with hardly any chest pain at all and sometimes i have a week where it is there nearly all the time and really stresses me out, i cant help thinking that i am going to die and panicking that it is the worst. Oh and last thing, with a couple of my "attacks" i have had really bad chills and shaking, accompanied by diarrhea once. If i think of anything that i have forgotten i will post again, please help?
When I had gallbladder attacks, they would always come at night only. Never during the day. I've never had any lower abdominal pain either. Only pain right below my ribcage. I'm not sure what your other symptoms could be, but honestly I don't think they're related to the gallstones at all. The numbness and pins and needles sound like it could be a nerve problem.
Are you going to have your gallbaldder out soon? I'd wait until you have it removed, and if you're still having problems go back to your doctor.
This could be gallstones. I know someone who got attacks right after she had a baby and within 3 weeks she had her gallbladder out. I have heard that women can get gallstones after having a baby. Although my sister-in-law got them and she didnt have any kids back then.
Hi everyone, thanks for the replies!
Shaunsgirl, yes i did have an epidural, maybe that might explain the pins and needles, the doc doesnt seem to think it is related to my abdomen/ chest pain!
The pain also seems to get bad after coffee and alcohol ( i dont drink much at all, hadnt had a drink in over a year and when i did the other night got quite a bit of pain), is this normal for gallstones, i am having my gallbladder out in 2 weeks.. very nervous, is it risky to have the surgery?
