So many health problems... What's wrong with me!?

Let me start by listing conditions I HAVE been diagnosed with, even mental things:
Depression - 2003
Anxiety - 2003
RSD (Left foot) - 2003/Remission until/2005
Osteoarthritis (Chest cavity) - 2003
TMJ - Always had this problem

I am currently being tested for:
Cushing's Syndrome
or some kind of Thyroid disorder and Hormone problems

I also have:
Very poor circulation to lower extremities
Very susceptible to getting sick
Sleeping trouble
Fatigue/Lack of energy
Pain in my lower back/buttocks/thighs
Nightmares and vivid dreams
Extreme weight gain (Around 50 pounds in two years... may be due to my sedentary lifestyle since the RSD)
Swollen lymph node on right side of neck (Had MRI's and CT scans done, and doctors say my gland is too small to biopsy.. probably nothing to worry about. Been swollen since August 2006)
Very late menstrual periods, or none at all.
Last winter I had a severe case of migraines that lasted about a week, then went away.
Horrible short-term memory, which I never used to have a problem with.

I'm going for blood tests today, to get a lipid panel done.. and a bunch of other things. When I had my blood tested at the Gyno last year, she found that my hormone levels were as high as a pregnant womans. (I am definitely not, nor have I ever been, pregnant) (I am also not sexually active for almost two years now). The doctor wants to check to see if I have Cushings Syndrome, so I am also doing a 24 hour urine test.

Friday night I began getting a horrible headache. I thought it was just because of my TMJ (I had my wisdom teeth pulled out last month, and one gave me such a problem.. the root broke off and it took 45 minutes of surgery to get it out.. leaving my TMJ 10000 times worse than it was originally)... Then it kind of went away. I remember having extremely bad and vivid dreams that night, actually.

Then Saturday night, a migraine struck with such intensity that I thought I was maybe dying, or having a stroke or something. I've had migraines before, and I also deal with chronic pain every day, but I have never experienced anything like this. The slightest movement/sound/light made me want to throw up. My right temple was just pounding and it felt like someone was stabbing me (When pressure was applied to it, it actually felt a bit better). I almost made my father bring me to the ER, and if I was able to move, I would have probably gone there too. I took 3 Extra Strength Excedrin, tried to eat a few bites of food (I kept gagging though.. I even had to take out my Night Guard/Splint/Bite Plate because even THAT was making me gag), and after about an hour, the headache went away and I fell asleep for a few hours.

When I woke up, I still felt strange. I felt.. disoriented, kind of. My stomach was still very upset, but my head was not throbbing. When I touched my right temple, it hurt very badly though.. and it still does.

Then last night I started to get another headache followed by nausea, I immediately took Excedrin and it went away. But then my throat began to get really sore. I thought I was thirsty, I kept on drinking water so many times.. I felt I couldn't get UN-thirsty. I decided to go downstairs to have a look into my throat.

(Let me bring up now that when I was younger, I had about 5-7 tonsillitis infections a year.. sometimes more. My doctor told me he wouldn't recommend a Tonsillectomy because my tonsils are very tiny (VERY TINY) and the surgeon would not be able to get them out properly. But after I turned, maybe, 16 I never had tonsillitis again. I was always getting sick though. Like I said before, I have a weak immune system, I guess, and being at school around sick kids meant that I was sick all winter long pretty much. I had strep throat back in August 2006.. around the same time I noticed my lymph node getting swollen, but no other throat problems since then.)

I look into my throat (The left side is the side that is extremely sore) and I notice that my left tonsil has this white thing on it. I know it's not good to exactly go in your mouth and start picking around, but I was hoping maybe it was just food or something stuck to it. I kept trying to get it out, but it's literally STUCK to my tonsil. It's kind of stringy... A white mucus string thats attached to my tonsil somewhere I can not see. It also does not hurt at all when I touch it or that tonsil.

I also now have at least two canker sores in my mouth (I haven't gotten any of those in years.. I only had a few after my teeth were pulled last month, but that always happens after I have teeth pulled.. For some reason I will grow a mound of sores right around the extraction site). One on the side of my tongue (the left) and one on the inside of my cheek (the left).

I also feel flushed.. or warm. I can not find our thermometer to take my temperature, but I had my father feel my head and he said I felt a bit warm to him. My eyes are kind of stinging/burning, like when you have a fever.

The left side of my buttock (Strange, I know) has a cramp in it. I mentioned above that I have these mysterious pains in my lower back, buttock and thigh (Usually just on the left side). I don't know what that is from.. I know I had a test done a year ago that said I had a pinched nerve in my lower back, but the doctors didn't think much of it, I guess, since it was never talked about again.

To anyone who has read through this all? Thank you so much. And don't worry, I am going to see my doctor about this.. the timing is just really bad. I've been out of work for a while, and I'm not receiving pay because my Workers Comp case is in Appeals. I also have no health insurance (Been trying to get Medicaid... but Social Services is a joke), and just had to spend $2500 on 4 tooth extractions and a bite plate... So I REALLY don't want to have to go to the doctor, the appointment itself costs a lot.. and I know he'll want me to have tests done, blah. I really wanted to write everything out for my own benefit too, since I may forget a lot of this later on.

And also, to add, I am on the following medications:
Effexor XR since 2003
Ativan since 2003
Tylenol 4 with Codeine since 2005

I also do not drink alcohol, and I gave up smoking.. but still have a cigarette every now and then. I do not do any drugs either. I'm a 6'1" 22 year old girl.

Any input you have, would be great.. and thank you again for reading all of this. I hope you all have a great day... and I would love to hear any advice or anything anyone has to say! I'm only 22 years old and I feel like I'm falling apart, ahh!

Re: So many health problems... What's wrong with me!?

Hi, I am new here, but I read your post. and I am so sorry for all you're going through. I am much older than you, but some of your symptoms sound like mine, esp. the aches and pains, weight gain, fatigue, chronic pain, arthritis. I have hypothyroidism, arthritis in and herniated disks in my neck, scoliosis, carpal tunnel syndrome and arthritis in my fingers, overweight, muscle aches. I have high blood pressure and high cholesterol, for which I take medication daily.

I know how difficult it is when you feel lousy and have all things going on in your body. Just be persistent with the doctors and if you aren't getting answers, take a break, then try another doctor. This is what I do.

I would also say try to do something every day, just light exercise. It could help. Take vitamins also.

Good luck.

Re: So many health problems... What's wrong with me!?

I'm being checked for either Cushing's Syndrome or Hypothyroidism. If it's not one, it's most likely the other. Thanks for the response

I have a bit of arthritis problems (Ahh at 22!) already. Places where I've been hurt previously take a really long time to heal, and then they will bother me every few days.. especially when it's raining, or just during the weather changes.. and now the winter weather is finally here, and I've come down with some kind of sickness heh. Sore throat, fever, headache... My dentist actually prescribed me some antibiotics for it, since he knows I don't have a lot of money right now.. and being uninsured and trying to see the doctor just costs way too much!

Well, I had 5 vials of blood taken on Wednesday for a whole bunch of tests! So when I go see the doctor next Friday and get the results.. hopefully we will know what I have! Finally!

Re: So many health problems... What's wrong with me!?

HI, I am a 22 year old girl that has had as much problems with my health as you, and still is having problems. I have been diagnosed with bipolar disorded, anxiety disorder, ocd, tmj, ibs, scoliosis, i have hyper mobile joints, i have a problem with my thyroid, i get migrians.... this list does on a bit more. I have been seeing doctors since i was 12 about all of these problems, and have taken medications, got acupuncture, physiotherapy, gone to chropractors. The symptoms that you get, other than what comes with your illness, can be from medications. But if you aren't eating well or exersizing it can make you feel sick too. I am on disability but i make sure i am doing exersiszes that are approved by a physiotheripist to help strengthen my back and keep me in shape over all. I don't eat any jusk food or take out because I feel sick enough without putting junk into my system. there is only so much doctors can do, when you have multiple illness, sometimes they can't give you an explanation for why ytour feeling sick i know that from my own personal experiances. i hope that you feel better, i know how much it suck to be so sick

Wow a lot of the problems you have sound like mine. I, too, avoid junk food and take out. I don't even like sweets... they always give me an upset stomach for some reason So chocolate and/or cake are a no no for me anyway. I do exercises too to help my foot, the same ones I was doing in physical therapy.. and I find that stretching exercises help a lot too. And lifting weights is great, it makes my arms feel wonderful.

Some more random information..

I also make sure I take my Multivitamin everyday, along with fiber supplements and Calcium supplements.

I used to eat junk food, back in high school. Strangely enough though, I was so unbelievably underweight at that time. All of my life, I was extremely underweight... My family used to call me the 'toothpick' because I was so tall and lanky. Well, even though I was underweight, I had my cholesterol checked when I was 17 and it was, if I remember correctly, 230 perhaps? Now it is under 200 because I drastically changed my diet.

My blood pressure is perfect, it's not high or low and my pulse is always about 68 which is healthy. And like I said, my cholesterol is also good now. The only problems found in my blood are my hormone levels which are way above normal. Friday I see my Endocrinologist and will get the results from the last tests... where they checked just about everything there is! So I should get some more answers then, hopefully!

Talking Re: So many health problems... What's wrong with me!?

Hello!
I just joined this message board this morning while I was up with my migraine or what I call my pain of the day. Ha! I have gone thru a number of doctors and conditions over the last two years myself. All parts of me are inflamed right now and hurting from muscle or nerve pain and weakness in my limbs. At one point I was allergic to pretty much everything in my house and enviroment. My immune system got nuked by over exposure to cleaning chemical in the spring of 2006. Since then its been one thing after another. I got inflamed ear tubes or ETD ( yeah I have never heard of it either before then) migraines, chronic broncitus, sinusitus ( had the surgery and it didn't help the inflamation at all!) I threw out my neck, knee, back due to the weaking of my muscles, tendons and ligaments and lack of balance due to the ears being inflamed and off balanced. I have TMJ in my jaws and they inflame off and on when they choose to. I got a rash all over my body which nobody could identify and still haven't to this day. I became allergic to poison oak and can catch it on the wind though I have never been allergic to it before in my life until two years ago. I have burning nerve pain that make me fell like I am the guy in the Fantastic 4 who is called Flame. I feel like somebody has rubbed me down with BenGay 24/7.Like I said I burn! sometimes ok alot of the times lately I can stand to have shoes touching my feet or back of my ankles. It hurts to wear shoes other than my orthopedic Crocs that I have fallen in love with in the past year. I have inflamed bones in my bad foot ( the one I tore all the ligaments in 10th grade doing the running long jump! I did it once and never again. Spent my summer I took drivers ed in a cast on my left foot.) I then a few years later poured scaling water on the top of that foot (left) and almost had to have a skin graft done on it. I am what they called pigeon toed and I thought if I got the bunion surgery done that I would not hate my feet anymore. Wrong one of feet didn't take the surgery (left) and so the numb tingle in my left knee continues. So you say your left side is a lemon you would be right but guess what I found a way to break two bones at the same time chaperoning a middle school end of the year skating party.I have been a skater since I was 8 years old and knew what I was doing when I did a simple flip turn on the skate floor. Well that is when I heard two snaps all the way up my skeleton into my head and went to the floor in agony. That is what they call a tork fracuture and you usually do it when you go skiing not on the skate floor. I left in an ambulance, had surgery to put a rod in that leg or it was going to be a cast from the hip to the foot to start with that summer. I also went for the rod option because we were going on a family vacation to Hershey Pa. in three weeks and I was going to get on that plane. I did with my walker, crutches ( I have owned a few pair and I hate them) and a rented wheel chair. We had a great time! So anyways i just wanted you to know you are not crazy. Lots of things can go wrong with you when you immune system is not working as it should or is gone. I am finally being sent to a specialist this Tuesday and I couldn't be happier if it was Christmas morning come early just for me. You have to let your primary doctor know what is going on at all the other doctors because they don't have a clue. The only common link between all the doctors and what is going on with you is you! You have got to make them listen. I am hoping that what damage that has been done to me already is not gone too far that it can't be stopped. I told my doctor a year ago to do a blood test to see if I have the R.A. factor in my blood and she didn't do it. So don't let them bully you around you are the patient and you pay them not the other way around. Show them all the evidence and say do something! I hope this helped you out.

Re: So many health problems... What's wrong with me!?

bvigorda,
Thanks for all the info. I do not eat any junk food or use artificial sweeteners... or even sugar itself. I had a few bites of cheesecake on Thanksgiving and felt nauseous afterwards because my body doesn't even like sweets Which is a good thing, I guess.. since I never crave sweets!

For breakfast I usually will have a bowl of cereal (Usually a cereal high in fiber, low in sugar) with some fat-free milk and a banana. Lunch usually means some low fat turkey on lite whole-wheat bread with a pickle on the side (Mmm... So filling lol). Dinner varies. But I always have a side of vegetables (I LOVE veggies. Especially broccoli and cauliflower), and some protein. My diet is pretty good. I've also begun to drink a lot of water lately too.

I also take One a Day multivitamins.. calcium supplements and fiber supplements. I really want to get off the prescription medications.. but at the same time, I'm scared.

Effexor I have been on since I was 17 and I used to cut myself and try to break my own bones, and I would have breakdowns. I'm not like that anymore, but I always am scared that.. what if I go back to that way again? What if that's who I am, and the medication has just been covering it up? Weird, I know.. but I'm scared. Ativan I'm also afraid to get off of. There are so many times when I have anxiety or panic attacks and the Ativan is the only thing that helps me. I've tried relaxing in a nice warm bubble bath.. I've tried breathing techniques, meditation, counting to 10... doesn't work.

I really don't think I can get off of the Tylenol 4s though. I really can't. They are the only thing that help with my chronic pain. I specifically am staying on Tylenol 4 instead of going up to stronger medications because I know opiates (And also Tylenol itself) is not good for you. One day, I hope my chronic pain will go away.. or they'll find some other treatments for it, and I won't need painkillers anymore. But for now, it's the only thing that gets me out of bed and lets me walk around a little. My injury is in my foot, so some days when it's really bad I can not even get up out of bed. I will crawl down the stairs to the bathroom... and I've spent weeks in my house without leaving ONCE because it was just so bad. My cane doesn't even help as much as I wish it would... but, there's nothing to do about it aside from trying to be optimistic

It also limits my activity and exercises that I can do. Which is why I lift weights everyday and do some stretching exercises (Kind of like Pilates or Yoga). It's really all I can do in my condition heh.

Again, thanks for all the info, everyone! Just a few more days until I get my blood test results, and I'm really nervous about all the hormone tests they did. Speaking of which... My period just came another week and a half late again so whatever is wrong with me is still not better For 6 years I got it exactly every 28 days. Then all of a sudden last year it stopped coming on time... I get it weeks late, or sometimes I even skip a month. And when I do get it? Its awful! 100 times worse than it should be I'll be sure to update on Friday when I get my results

Re: So many health problems... What's wrong with me!?

Okay well I got my newest blood test results back... Hormones are all still incredibly high and now for some reason.. my LDL Cholesterol is REALLY high. 206!

I NEVER had high cholesterol before! I don't even eat bad foods.. I have a good diet. One of the doctors told me that Cushing's can do this... and they are pretty much 99% sure I have Cushing's but can not officially diagnose it until I do the 24 hour urine test to check the cortisone levels.

I've also been having headaches for the past month or two now.. a migraine maybe twice a month only.. but annoying headaches!

I go back next week for more blood work and to bring in the urine test... I really hope I don't have Cushings but it seems I probably do. And if I don't... then it's got to be something else anyway The doctors, at least, told me that there definitely is a problem that is causing all of these symptoms and stuff for me.

I'm so scared about surgery.. I've never had surgery (Aside from getting my wisdom teeth pulled.. and my ingrown toenails removed heh).. but REAL surgery? I'm petrified! I hope I don't need it

It's also strange but.. I finally just stopped growing, I think. I'm 22 and I've grown an inch in the past two years! I'm 6'1".. I haven't been measured in about a year, OH MY.. I hope I'm not 6'2"... that would be really... bad hehe. I hate being tall

Again, thanks for all your support and info everyone! I will keep updating!

Re: So many health problems... What's wrong with me!?

Hi. Im not trying to be unsympathetic........but have you ever thought that the reason you feel so lousy is because you are taking so much crap? I mean come on......who can function normally on all of those medications. Im suprised you remember your name. The combination of all of those medications can't be a good thing. And the pain medication! That is a really strong dose........what in the world are you taking that for? I would SERIOUSLY take into consideration the amount of medication you are on, and the tremendous side effects and symptoms they can cause when taken together.......Im suprised you can even function!
Have you ever thought you might be a hypercondreact? Maybe you should look into medication for that. My heavens!
