Thumbs down Pain above belly button

Hello all. I'm a little concerned with an attack that I seem to get every so often. It starts out with a slight burn in the lower abdominal area and cramping and then major boughts with sharp cramping which lasts for up to 1/2 hour on and off.It seems that after the 1/2 hour goes by.....all is well. Also. When these attacks happen my abdominal (Directly above my belly button)is so sore and very tender. It appears to turn hard.Any suggestions.

It is very possible that you may have a hiatel hernia. Read up on it on the web and see if you have the other symptoms. I have suffered with this for years and it doess indeed cause much agravation and can be painful.Wearing loose clothing, sitting up straight, being careful about what you eat and being careful when exercising helps... Hope yaa feel better!! Lisa

Update. I was told today after several tests that I have an ulser. I was put on Zantak for however long that it takes to heal. Any tips would greatly be appreciated from those of you that have had this condition. Regards D.Holloway.

Here's a MedLinePluslink to drug info on Zantac and similar drugs:
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginformation.html

You can also access the MedLinePlus diseases database from this link. Aside from Gastric Ulcers, suggest you also look up:

IBD [Inflammatory Bowel Disease]
IBS [Inflammatory Bowel Syndrome]
GERD [Gastro-Esophogeal Reflux Syndrome]
Ulcerative Colitis
Crohn's Disease

The above diseases have some of the same symptoms as gastric ulcers. Reading up on these may help you determine what you should watch out for, what you should do and what you should avoid.

Question: Why didn't your doctor prescribe antibiotics? Gastric [or peptic] ulcers have been shown to be caused by the H. Pylori bacterium. I believe that the current research has shown that only antibiotics can kill this bacteria.

Good luck,
Jay
