body itching

I have been experiencing an extreme itching of the scrotum and rectal areas. It is beyond the embarrassing stage because if it's been going on for over a year now. When the itching sensation takes hold the more I scratch the area, the more it intensifies. My dermatologist calls it Itchy Scrotum Disease. I don't think he has a clue as to what I have. I have tried every ointment under the sun to no avail. Now he has me on HYDROZYZ HCL 25mg and AMITRIPTILANE 10mg. At night the situation gets worse and the itching has migrated to other parts of my body i.e., the back of my neck, chest, legs and arms. However, the scrotum/rectal area are the most troublesome. I scratch myself raw and can't stop it. This unfortunately is a daily affair. The only thing I have found to quell the itching is ice. My next stop is an allergist. Any information on my problem would be appreciated.

Paul

Re: body itching

You may want to try bathing in Cetaphil instead of soap. Aveeno creams and lotions are excellent for itching. The allergist is a good next step...a lot of times people with allergies have a lot of skin problems and itching because eczema, asthma and allergies are related.

Re: body itching

Thanks for the tip. I am new to this health line and I am learning a lot about my situation. Learning more than from all the Dr's that I have been seeing. Thank you again, Paul
