Post Little ball of soreness right under jaw

Does anyone know what that little ball that floats around underneathe the jaw (my left side) is? Mine is sore and I thought that it was on my jaw until I felt a little ball in there that was sore. What is the soreness from? Can it be from Gum irritation from eating hard foods? (I do get that from time to time to where my gum feels rough from eating too hard of foods)

Thanks everyone! These boards are much more helpful than doctors are!

im not exactly 100% sure what your meaning here but, i sometimes get a lump just under my jaw line which hurts to touch. ive seen my doctor about it a few times and it turned out to be a swollen gland. i had anitbiotics for it and it cleared up no problem. sorry if this isnt what your talking about lol

I think that's what I'm talking about. What caused it to swell up when you saw the Dr.?

that little ball is a gland my friend. If it it protruding like that it means you are fighting off some type of infection.

I also get this sore protruding ball on the left side, under my jaw. It's not too common, but it's happened enough overall.
I get paranoid sometimes, and when it first started to appear I thought it was cancer or some sort. Then it would disappear, after beign around for a few days and getting extremely sore and painful to touch.

It is a gland. You ALWAYS have it, its just usually hidden. When you are fighting off any type of infection, the gland will sometimes swell and protrude. This is because it is working harder than normal. If you didn't have these glands you would be in deep $#|^. So stop worrying about it, it means your immune system is working the way it should.

Colbe is right. When the glands under your jaw--which are lymph nodes, by the way--swell, it means that your lymphatic system is working properly because it's fighting an infection. Basically, it means that your immune system is fighting off a cold/virus/etc. Personally, I'd rather have a slightly painful, slightly swollen lymph node and be well than have my immune system fail and me be sick.
