Your pulse can go very low and so long as it is regular and doesn't stay that low it is not a problem. If your pulse goes below 50 and stays there pretty much all of the time then I would see the doc about it but otherwise anything above 50 without symptoms is fine. Even below 50 on occasion is ok.

The more active you are the lower your pulse will go while resting. I've seen patients who go into the 30s, which really isn't good but stimulation brings it up so that's a good sign. If it doesn't come back up with stimulation seek medical attention. Normal is 60-80. So anything below 60 for extensive periods of time, again that doesn't rise with stimulation, should be evaluated.

thanks, im not active at all (totaly bedbound) have been diagnosed with sinus tackycardia, so for it to go low is unusal for me, i ws just wondering if 40 was ok as thats what it dropped to, it picked up to 60 quite uickly though. thanks foryour replies xxx

Well I would say since it picked back up you shouldn't worry too much, UNLESS this is happening all the time. Medication can also drop your heart rate, if you are taking any. If you aren't having any physical symptoms, light-headedness or weakness when it drops I would just wait till the next doctors visit to mention it. If you are uncomfortable with what's going on or it's happening often, then don't wait. At least call and talk to a nurse and see what they recommend!! Take care!
