Here's a thought on canker sores - General Health Message Board

Okay, I have had 4-5 canker sores come on as some of you well know from other posts that I have had. I thought of this theory as to why they could have come on. I had a can of hot cocoa mix drop on my lip (upper) and it hurt like the dickens! Well, I thought with the trauma to the mouth that brought on possibly the others. What do you all think? Lip still hurts when I push on it a little bit. Oh...Just had another thought...Can I now possibly get cold sores?

Cold sores as already mentioned are caused by the herpes simplex virus and canker sores are not. So not you would not get cold sores after having the canker sores. If you have had cold sores in the past or get exposed to the virus via kissing somewith a cold sore or sharing eating/drinking utensils then you may come down with a cold sore but you have to have the virus in order to get a cold sore.

I wasn't referring to cold sores anywhere in my post. I simply was thinking that since a heavy can had fallen and hit my lip, since trauma can cause canker sores (not cold sores)I was wondering if the trauma could have caused the canker sore that I have on that particular side inside my mouth.

Can cankers cause tenderness in the neck or jaw I wonder?
