popcorn stuck in throat

Has anyone here ever had or known someone who has had a piece of popcorn (feels like part of the shell) stuck way back in the side area of their throat?

I could tell a part of the popcorn I was eating got lodged all of a sudden towards the side of my throat, and I never felt like I got it to go away. It is the second day now that I am having pain in that area, and it feels like it is halfway between my throat and my ear. And everytime I yawn, as I get to the end of the yawn, it hurts a lot!

Does anyone know, will this eventually go away? Is it harmful to have something like that stuck back that far?

Thanks in advance for responding,

enigma

Re: popcorn stuck in throat

It could be a scratch from the pop corn.Or it could be stuck. Try eating something dry a piece of bread a roll ect if its stuck that should help dislodge it.

Re: popcorn stuck in throat

I used to get that when I still had tonsils. Do you still have your tonsils? Mine were very large and things would get caught sometimes. I was always able to control my gag reflex and stick my finger back there and scoop it out. This would also let you know if there is something really there, or if it just feels like there is. Good luck, I hope this helps.

Re: popcorn stuck in throat

Thanks for the replies..

I have tried eating a lot of different things, and nothing seems to help. I didn't think it really would anyway though, because the place I have the soreness is near my glands on the side of my throat.

And I do still have my tonsils, but it feels like it is further over to the side of my throat.

I can't figure out how it could have lodged itself in that area?!

Re: popcorn stuck in throat

This happened to me once when I was younger, and it took a good whole day before it either dislodged itself, or the scratch that it left behind started feeling better.

Re: popcorn stuck in throat

Thanks again everyone for the replies.. It helped put me more at ease.

Today I woke up and my throat finally felt better.. still just a tad sore, but nothing like before. I think it is true that it probably was just irritated from being scratched.

Thanks again!
