Angry Weight troubles =[

Hi,

I'm 20 years old

I'm 5 feet and 6.5 inches tall

I weigh 7 and a half stone......just.

Surely this isn't right?
I've always been kind of underweight but over the last few years i've tried really hard to put on weight.

I really hate being so skinny. I guess my belly's fine but my legs have no shape whatsoever. My arms are also skinny and i have no boobs at all. This badley affects my confidence.

I've had loads of tests, i'm not anemic and my thyroids are fine. I've had many blood tests but nothing comes up!!

To make things worse people are starting to have a go at me because i'm not eating and i'm already so skinny. Most people assume im anorexic or bulemic when they first meet me.

Help anyone please???

If you're basically healthy and just can't gain weight, why are you not eating? You probably have a high metabolism, and need to eat.............

I usually eat ok, i admit my diet isnt great.

I eat alot of food just not enough of the good stuff.

Just lately i've been really hungry and so cooked myself food, but i have a few bites and i feel like i cant eat it.

I'm on new meds so that might be a reason but i cant change them.

Re: Weight troubles =[

Hi Kristy,

I have been the same as you all through my life, never been able to put on weight.

I am 6 foot 3 inches and am only 11 stone, which when you are a guy and have skinny arms and legs it isn't to great. And being 27 I have started to put on a little weight around my stomach (a couple of years ago i was barely 10 stone), it looks a little silly with a little bit of flab on the stomach and nowhere else.

The truth is it is harder for people who are naturally skinny to put on weight than it is for fat people to lose it. The difference is we have to eat ALOT more to actually put on weight. The average recommended daily calorie consumption is between 1500-2000, and for people looking to put on weight it should be 3000-4000. Which when you are skinny and naturally do not have a huge appetite can be difficult. And if your metabolism is very fast you then have to sustain that level of eating to maintain the desired weight.

If you are absolutely serious about putting on more weight then you need to start with the basics. Make sure you are getting you 5 fruit and veg portions a day, try eating 6 small meals rather than 3 larger meals during the day. This is the same rule for people to looking to lose weight but for some reason the same applies to us skinny people.

Keep away from junk food as much as possible, eat lots of protein and carbs. Also do you exercise? Because as a skinny person not exercising will make it worse as your muscles will not be used.

There is no easy way for people to gain weight, it does involve a complete life style change.

But it all depends on really how bothered you are about it. I lacked confidence in my early twenties but never really done anything about it. As I creep towards my 30's I realise that yes I am skinny, but I am happy. i eat healthily, I exercise.

So it is really all down to you and how badly you want to change.
