Leg Discomfort/Pain from altered gait

I had arthritiis in my left foot which caused me to alter the way I walked. This in turn caused great discomfort/pain in my leg. I had joint fusion performed on the joint which relieved the pain in my foot. However, as a result of walking with an altered gaite for so many years ,Icannot seem to walk normally again. This has been a 10 year ordeal . I've tried physical therapy which did not help. Surely someone else has had this problem and possibly overcame it. Any ideas and or suggestions would be deeply appreciated.
