Chronically upset stomach...

Hi all,

For the past several weeks I've had a chronically upset stomach. I'm not entirely sure what the cause of it is, but it tends to get rather irritating. It was two days ago I believe, I was preparing to go out and run some errands where the pain struck me suddenly and I was nearly on the ground in tears.

I haven't changed my diet for months now, I eat relatively healthy now (bare minimum of junk food), haven't eaten any undercooked foods. I've tried taking pepto bismal and tums but neither had any effect whatsoever.

I know that this isn't my testicular area; I've had that pain many times before and it's much different than this.

What might I be experiencing here?

Thank you,

James

Re: Chronically upset stomach...

One of the most common causes of discomfort and even bowel irregularities in the lower abdomen is irritable bowel syndrome.

You might want to research that and see if it sounds like you. IBS is a benign although very uncomfortable condition. I have it and control it with diet (simply do not eat foods that I know irritate it) and trying to keep stress levels down. It might help to keep a diary of what time of day on a certain day you eat or drink something, when you get intensely emotional about something, and see if anything matches up with your symptoms.

I myself often know I am going to be hurting in the bowel area later if I start to feel an unexplained "sinking" feeling in the pit of my stomach after I have eaten something I am not used to.

If you do have it, there are also prescription medications you can take for it.

That's possible, though this is a feeling that is present with or without food; and my bowel movements have been fairly regular for a long time now.

Re: Chronically upset stomach...

If it does not sound like IBS to you, my only other advice is to go get it checked out. There are a lot of things it could be but I am not familiar with those because I have only had to deal with the IBS.

Good luck!

How are your stress levels? Stress and diet are probably the two most common reasons for stomach problems, so if your doing all the right things with diet (eg avoiding coffee and coke, fatty foods etc) then it could be time to look at other aspects of your lifestyle

Pretty much for the past two weeks my stress levels have been through the roof, in comparison to about 2-3 months ago.

This feeling I get is quite similar to the feeling I get when I'm nervous or anxious, now that I'm getting it again I can refine the description more.
