Arrow Fatigue, Insomnia, Chest Pain, Shortness of Breath, etc... Ideas?

Ok, so its a big post. I'm a 20 year old Canadian male. I am in university and am NOT a hypochondriac. I have not been to a doctor’s office in 9 years. The following symptoms are a result of not going to the doctor when I should for the last ten years. I don’t like doctors’ offices and don’t go to them except when I absolutely need to. I've got a hell of a lot of symptoms and I'm not even sure they are all related. I'm getting blood work done tomorrow and will see a doctor after that. In the mean time does anyone have any ideas or experience with this type of problems?

-Immense fatigue. (I sleep a minimum of 8 hours per night but can usually not survive even five hours of the day without the overpowering need to go back to bed or falling asleep without meaning to)

-Shortness of breath (Akin to when one has just eaten a very large meal even if I have not eaten at all. Shallow breaths and a lot of yawning).

-Lower and upper back/hip ache. (When I go to bed at night it feels like I just played an entire game of rugby. My lower back and hips and up as high as (and sometimes including?) my kidneys THROB immensely. My shoulders and lower neck feel the same way. When I wake up my back is often stiff and just as painful or worse. If I go to bed feeling not too bad I wake up much worse. I thought it was my mattress so I paid $600 for a good one without any noticeable difference. At times I can’t get to sleep because of the pain and not being able to relive it. Other nights it’s barely noticeable.

-Chest, shoulder, and arm pain. (Sharp knifing pains occasionally pass from my collar bone on the right hand side down my armpit and into my arm, at times reaching my wrist. Pain from my collar bone through my body cavity to the area of my kidney on the right side as well. Chest pain in the muscle on the left side follows the same pattern. At times it is located just above/around/in my heart. They always repeatedly fire for as long as 5 seconds. Hurts enough to cause tears.)

-Light-headed-ness. (If I am lying down then stand up. Or if I exert myself as in climbing stairs at times. Sometimes but rarely it occurs when I am just sitting still. It varies in severity).

-Dizziness. (Related to the above light-headed-ness).

-Trouble swallowing: dysphagia (food stops just above my stomach but after my lungs and may take several minutes to continue through or I vomit it back up. Could be related to “chest pressure” listed below?)

-Stomach/lung pressure. (When I lay on my chest or my back I feel unusual pressure between my upper stomach area and the lower right side of my left lung. Sometimes its like the left side of my chest is more full than it should be. It is something that I have only started noticing the last 2 or so months. It is disturbing enough that I often avoid sleeping on my back or chest).

-Lung pain. (When I breathe deeply I occasionally get a searing pain in the lower right side of my right lung or the right side of my left lung).

-Heavy heart beat. (Not a racing heart. More like an old car going up a hill that is just too big. Large hard thumping sometimes for much more than an hour at a time. Like as if I had been running and my heart was pounding hard but for some reason not fast. Usually occurs when I’m sitting down doing nothing without apparent triggers.

-General full upper body aching. (24/7 sore muscles, kidneys, stomach, whatever. Like I worked out but I don’t and its inside too. It doesn’t matter if I’m sitting, lying or standing. Ache, ache, ache…)

Not sure if this is applicable but:
-Muscle twitching. (Many years ago (perhaps 10 or 12) my right eyelid would twitch randomly. Eventually (5 years ago?) it spread to my right cheek. In the last six months I have experienced uncontrollable twitching in my left pectoral muscle, left bicep, and left forearm.

And as a side note:
-Sensitive Kidneys. (I was on the maximum allowed dosage of Clindamycin by way of IV for 3 Trouble swallowing (food stops just above my stomach but after my lungs and may take several minutes to continue through or I vomit it back up. Could be related to “chest pressure” listed below?)4 days and then 300mg orally for a week last October to treat a throat/lymph gland infection that threatened to spread to my blood. It absolutely destroyed my intestines (diarrhea, hemorrhoids, bloating, etc) for several months though I am back to normal now. My kidneys have been immensely sensitive to touch and pressure ever since. I think it may be a side effect because I was never like that before in my life.)

I started experiencing some of the symptoms about two years ago but in the last year it has become detrimental and the last 5 or so months everything has gotten much worse. I do not always feel this way but the vast majority of the time I do. I do not always feel all of the symptoms in the run of a day thank god, but at times I have.
I do not suffer from any form of depression and have far above average grades in university. I love my life. I think I'm going crazy

Welcome to the boards!!

Whenever there are multiple body systems involved, and the tests and the doctors don't know exactly what's going on, it is wise to consider lyme's disease.

I would suggest you read the posts on the lyme's boards, starting with the stickies at the top.

Thanks for the welcome. I dont have most of the symptoms of Lyme disease and live in a part of the world that doesnt have ticks that carry it. Havnt been anywhere I could have gotten it in about 4 years. Thanks for the pointer though.

You're welcome for the "welcome", .

My apologies...I thought you were posting from Alberta, Canada and I know they have lyme there.

The following info may or may not be of interest to you, but I think it may be helpful to others in similar situations:

Many people think that a condition/disease "requires" all of the symptoms. This usually isn't the case, at least for lyme. You can have only 1 symptom and still have lyme.

And one more thing, lyme can remain dormant in the body for over a decade so just because someone isn't "recently" exposed, doesn't mean they can't develop symptoms years and years after the exposure...this is one of the many reasons people and doctors don't think to look for it.

Take care!!

Bethsheba

A lot of the symptoms could be of GERD and iron anemia.

Ok so I had blood work done and the results came back normal except for low thyroid. Statistically for a North American male my age the chances of that are about 1/300,000. Doctor got me in to see a thyroid specialist next week cause its most likely that the thyroid issue is just a symptom of an underlying cause. It does explain the fatigue and a few of the other symptoms. I have a full physical in 3 days and the doc is going to look for ulcers cause thats what he thought my stomach issues were most likely caused by. I have a thyroid ultrasound on the 20th as well. Cancer is a nasty sort of word but a possibility that has been named and that the specialist is going to try and rule out first *wipes brow*. No low iron. I'll keep this updated as I go through the weeks so other people can use it as reference.

Of course there are a lot of symptoms here and I am not a doctor but for the heart issues you might want to do some research on D-Ribose, Co-Q-10, L-Carnatine, and Magnesium. All of these nutrients are not only important for a healthy heart but for energy and fibromyalgia as well. You might also want to look up Dr. Steven Sinatra. He is a heart specialist and promotes these nutrients for a healthy heart. I know these nutrients help due to personal experience.

Dr. Jacob Tietelbaum (Fibro specialist) also promotes D-Ribose and Co-Q-10 for Fibromyalgia.

Although not all of your symptoms seem to be related to heart issues...even some that don't immediately appear so may be...dizziness, light-headed-ness, or even indigestion (I know that is a symptom in women at least).

Hope you feel better soon,
2nuts (2healthnuts that is)
In addition I once heard a doctor say that if you wake up with back pain that it may not be a bad mattress but lack of protein in your diet. A good whey protein powder might help if you can't get enough in your diet.

Re: Fatigue, Insomnia, Chest Pain, Shortness of Breath, etc... Ideas?

The muscle pain, shortness of breath, sleeping problems and bowel problems could be the symptoms for chronic fatigue syndrome. Are you in a lot of stress, do you have problems at home/work... do you often feel like u can't finish what u started?
Also, the bowel problems could be a sign of irritable colon syndrome... do you often switch between diarrhea/constipation or do you get bloated when u eat fruits or vegetables?
Anyway, the muscle twitching is definitely a sign of low calcium blood levels. That's probably what's causing your heart problems too. If you drink lots of coffee, like I think u do, to keep yourself awake, it may affect you calcium blood levels. Coffee also affects your heart. Calcium is needed in muscle contraction, and your heart is a muscle, too, so it may be the reason why you are having those heavy heart beats. Do you feel like they are slurry, or is it like a horse racing, then followed by a long pause? If the last one is the case, maybe u should reduce the coffee levels.
Another thing: are you a smoker? If so, how many cigarettes a day? It may explain the shortness of breath, problems with your heart, light-head-ness...
Anyway, i hope this is helpful and I'd really like to hear some feedback

These are a lot of symptoms of panic or anxiety disorder ..sometimes acid reflux can be brought on by anxiety..also look at fibromyalgia is a bunch of random pains around the body ..hope any of this helps ..I have panic disorder and I get chest pains after panic attacks that last awhile and dizzyness with dielated pupils and heart palapations it I had to go to the ER twice and they did a EKG blood work and chest Xray and it all
came back ok ...the soca said it was either anxiety or acid reflux or inflamed chestwall ..which none are life threatning

Hey Caveman,

This symptoms are all related to anxiety... believe it or not. I've been through the same thing with the same symptoms. The doctors like to scare you with Lyme disease, brain rumors, cancer (mine was they thought i has Multiple Sclerosis).

I literally have the same symptoms and have come to terms with it and deal with it daily.

I don't know about the liver thing, but all the other symptoms point to an anxiety condition. Only thing that ever helped me was Xanax. But that's addicting.
