Really concerned about multiple ear, eye, and neurological symptoms - please advise!

Hi all,

I always thought tinitus was something that was constant. I get ringing in my ears, but its only sudden, usually lasts for about 10-20 seconds, and goes away after I swallow and move around a bit. I asked a doctor over the phone and she said "Don't worry about it", but it really has me concerned. I think the tinitus is triggered by constant noises unexpectedly changing. For instance, I was just sitting in bed, and the fan right next to me was on. There was also a low hum in the background from the heater, but that turned off. The second that turned off, my right ear began ringing, almost to the point where it was blocked. Left ear was fine.

In fact, I think it's usually only my right ear. It scares me, because I also have floaters in my right eye, which started around the same time. And then I think even further back to October of 2006, a little more than 2 years ago, and I remember all of my visits to the neurologists for my twitching and numbness. So here's a timeline:

October 2006 - numbness/twitching in my legs begins. I go to neurologist who thinks I have "something" but doesn't know what it is - perhaps a neuropathy or myopathy. He does EMG and Nerve Conduction Study to get this opinion. Considers muscle biopsy (but I never do it).

March 2007 - Floaters begin in my right eye. Gets worse over time.

June 2007 - Tinitus begins in my right ear. Gets worse over time.

So now, of course the only thing I'm thinking of is an undiagnosed brain tumor. Am I over-reacting?

Re: Really concerned about multiple ear, eye, and neurological symptoms - please advi

Did you ever get a proper diagnosis from your first set of problems?
Tinnitius usually is constant and does differ from ringing in the ear...I have had both tinnitus due to hearing loss and occasional ringing llike for 20 secs or so probably from low bp (according to my dr)
It sounds like you should visit an otologist (I think thats the right name they deal with ear and neurological issues)
Tinnitus is usually a symptom so the cause should be found.

Check out the Hearing disorders board and Inner ear board they may have other who can help

Best wishes

You probably do not have a tumor, those eye floater things are really nothing but the lighting in the room my neurologist told me, I have been dizzy, lightheaded, had tinitus, heart arrthymia, and vertigo, oh and seizures, what a blast1!!!I went to cleveland clinic and they still do not know what to do, but I have been assured it is not life threatening, after a head and neck mri. I am very healthy, athletic, no booze, no smokes , no weed. I think I was exposed to a chemical that messes me up as I work in a steel mill that is not the cleanest environment, try not to freak out, it makes it worse. See if the doc can give you some xanax, for some reason this stuff gets rid of about 75% of this ********!!! Be strong even though I know it will scare you sometimes, good luck...
