Drug Expired 10/2008...Still ok to take?
Is it okay to take a prescribed med a couple weeks/months after expiration day?

In most cases, it is fine, as long as it has been properly stored so that light and moisture haven't degraded it.

Yes it's perfectly safe, but it loses it's strength.

It's 0.5 mg, and does it matter what kind of prescribed med? And when should i throw them away completely, with an expiration date of 10/08? How long do i really have without them being risky to take?

They were stored in a closet.

If it's an antibiotic you need to throw it out. It can cause kidney damage. Call your pharmacist, please!

yep, just call your pharmacist, they would know better than anyone just what type of drug may be safe to still take and what may break down a bit faster. you just need to be certain that this is okay before you take it. your pharm is the best possible source for this type of info. this is one of those better safe than sorry situations. 2 months old.
Most nonliquid medications wont expire in two months.
Anybody who does say toss it...is wrong.
I have meds that are 4 months old and are still good.
Yes drugs lose effectiveness but only in some cases.
Many drugs will have many more months.
Obvisouly chk with a pharmacist first, but dont toss it away till you confirm for sure.
Odds are you are ok with them. Still check though.
IN fact I tend to not consider drugs expiring till they have gone unused for months (and thats often long before they truely expire).

True on antibiotics ..... these drugs are very short term need only and should not be kept after the initial need...
Antibiotics if used too long (even on refilled) can cause more problems than they resolve.
