Mom's mysterious diagnosis

Hi all right now me and family is going through some tough times with my mother and I just didn't know where to look so I decided to try and find a forum for help.

It all started a couple of months ago when my grandmother was dying and my mom had to go back to vietnam to visit her.For over a month after my grandmothers death, she was grieving but everything was find until she got back to canada.

Her symptoms over the past 3 months are dry sore throat, hot and cold flashes, back pain, little bumps in her throat that bother her when she breaths, constant fevers that range in the area of 36.7 and 38 and lastly constant sudden fatigue .They did all sort of things to try and find out whats wrong with her but to no avil.

We had her lungs ultrasound multiple times not to mention the countless trip to different specialist and doctors to try and find out whats wrong. My mother is visibly sicks and she wants a ct scan but the doctors refuse and insist that nothing is wrong with her.

If anyone here watches the show mysterious diagnosis,I'm afraid my mom might be one of those cases where its a rare illness that take 3-4 years to discover.

Re: Mom's mysterious diagnosis

I am so sorry to hear this. I wouldn't leave any stone unturned. I would keep going to a doctor until you find someone who is willing to listen to your mom and run whatever test necessary. No one cares about one's health more than themselves. Don't give up. I am so sorry about your grandma and I hope your mom will be feeling better real soon!

Re: Mom's mysterious diagnosis

Hi, I feel as if I'm in the same boat. My primary care doctor sent me for a CT scan of my colon, ended up the only thing I found out was "diagnosis: neuralgia" similiar to arthritis. Well, at age 47 since I was already seeing a "pain center doctor" needless to say "no one cares or wants to do any other test". I'm about ready to just go today to the e.r. room because it still hurts on and off.
Under the left breast, like rib sternum pain, little bit of gas pains too and a lot of belching, but it all comes and goes. I always blame my pains on "holding grandchildren" you know but it's probably some nervousness. With my 19 illnesses and pending disability benefits, what else..can happen? But I do have anxiety attacks also, depression, bi-polar disorder, fibromyalgia, etc..and am scheduled to have a hysterectomy in Feb. (of all other things considering)..what else? But I know God is in charge and in control and I trust him..But I just want to be sure that it's not "gallbladder" or "spleen" trouble. If anyone knows or cares to let us know, we certainly would and do appreciate your kindness in my matter. thanks, Cajunland

Have they done blood tests? If so, do you know which ones? It sounds like it could be some sort of infection.

If you haven't already, help her start keeping a file. Who she's seen, when, what tests were performed, what the doctor suggested. Keep the reports from any blood tests or scans. Keep track of what symptoms started when.

cajunland all I can say is you must take charge and not conformed until you are truly "cured".

My mom has done all sorts of test and went to the er 4-5 times still nothing,I think she is starting to get a bit delusional thinking every bump is some sort of cancer.

She has had multiple blood test for any sorts of infection and still nata.Anyway I would love it if you keep me up to date if they find anything and vice versa.

Re: Mom's mysterious diagnosis

Yes, I have learned since 2000 to present the more "a patient, ourselves can find out from others..sometimes seems to be for the best..because a lot of these drs...just don't talk enough". My pain dr. at pain center after 8 years..I got brave and asked what else I could use instead of 2 pills a week Ultracet RX for pain. Dr. says "the best thing that seems to work is Vitamin D", try it.
I said well, that's the same thing as Glucosamine pills, my orthopedic surgeon put me on glucosamine pills 2 a day since 2000 and I only quit taking the glucosamine pills once in 8 years and that was for 2 weeks once when I ran out. Needless to say, boy was my pain intense, frustrating I could not "get out of bed". So now since last week I am on 2 glucosamine pills and 1 vitamin d daily and feeling tremendously better than I ever have. So we all have "great weeks"..The weather also (believe it or not) has a lot to do will all these occassional aches and pains.

I would love to stay in touch, you take care. cajunland Louisiana native..
