Stopping prednisone

HELLO, I HAVE CHRONIC URTICARIA (HIVES). I HAVE HAD THEM ALMOST 20 YEARS. THE DR'S SAY IT IS AN AUTOIMMUNE DISORDER. I HAVE TAKEN PREDNISONE OFF AND ON THE WHOLE TIME, BUT THIS LAST TIME I HAVE TAKEN IT FOR ABOUT 6 YRS STRAIGHT. ANYWHERE FROM 5mg TO 25mg. MY DOCTOR AND I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO STOP MY PREDNISONE VERY SLOWLY BUT WHEN I GET DOWN TO ABOUT 5mg OR STOP IT COMPLETELY. I START FEELING HORRIBLE! I GOT TO A POINT WHERE MY WHOLE BODY HURTS, I CAN'T THINK STRAIGHT, I COULD NOT EAT, I HAD CONTANT NAUSUA. SO I WEN'T BACK TO MY DR AND HE PUT ME BACK ON IT AND SAID TO GO BACK DOWN EVEN SLOWER, BUT NOW THAT I AM BACK DOWN ON 5mg I AM STARTING TO FEEL BAD AGAIN. MY QUESTION IS, SHOULD I GO TO AN ENDOCRONOLOGIST? ALSO, IF I DO IS THERE SOMETHING ELSE HE CAN GIVE ME TO START MY ADRENAL GLANDS WORKING AGAIN AND GO OFF THE PREDNISONE? I AM TOTALLY DISGUSTED ABOUT IT, BC I CAN FINALLY GO OFF MY PREDNISONE, MY HIVES ARE GONE, BUT I CAN'T BC I START HAVING WITHDRAWEL SYMPTOMS. ANY ADVISE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Re: Stopping prednisone

Please Please do not take pednisone as it can and will cause Avascular Necrosis. I now have stage 4 in both hip joints. I will need both hip joints replaced in the next year. AVN is very painful the pain is = to bone cancer.

I have struggled with hives most my life but the last 7 years hive free. I just got a bout of hive worse than ever. I am not sure why but I am going crazy. So now I have avn and chronic hives . How do I fix this with out prednisone ?

I have haves head to toe In my feet swollen in my hands hurt and all over my body

Re: Stopping prednisone

I was able to get off of Librium 5 mg. by omitting one pill a week for 6 weeks. Continue omitting another pill for 6 weeks until you are down to no pills for 6 weeks. This prevented withdrawal for me.

The body needs time to adjust to the reduction before reducing more.
