Jaw makes Cracking noise...why?

I am doing some speech therapy exercises and my jaw makes a cracking noise when I open/close, especially when the exercises requires a quick open/close movement of the mouth. Why does it make that noise and can it be stopped or corrected?

Could be TMJ.

Ya. It's probubly the begining of TMJ. If it starts to hurt you, I would advise talking to someone about it. Also, if you grind your teeth at night, or have the happit of clenching your jaw when you are stressed or angry, those can be causes of TMJ.
Hope this helped!

Re: Jaw makes Cracking noise...why?

My jaw has done the same thing for years and my dad's jaw cracks too when he chews food. Neither of us has ever looked into what is causing this or how to correct it. It hasn;t ever done us any harm/pain.
