Iron Deficiency Confusion - General Health Message Board

Hello,

I'm a bit confused about my blood tests. All my iron levels are in the normal ranges except for my Iron Saturation, which was at 12%. What does that mean? My doc has me on Slo-Fe to combat this, but does that mean I'm iron deficient? Why were my other tests ok? Am I anemic?

In the past 5 months I've been diagnosed with PCOS/Insulin Resistance and Hypothyroidism and now this Iron thing. I've gotten a million blood tests since September 2008 and now am all of a sudden Iron deficient??? I'm so confused....

Please Help!

Chronic low iron saturation can cause iron deficency anemia.

Chronic illness of any kind can cause anemia, in fact it's called the "Anemia of Chronic Illness". Looks like you were just starting down that road, it's good they caught it early.
