My Doctors are baffled!!!

I have had 3 strokes in the past 2 1/2 yrs and they cannot tell me for sure why. After my last stroke I have what we call episodes. I lose all function on the right side of my body. My arm and leg tightens up and the right side of my face droops. Basically paralyzing me on my rightside until it passes. Sometimes it lasts a few minutes and sometimes it can last a few hours. My episodes always begin with me not feeling so good and end with a piercing pain in my head. My right foot twists inward now all the time now and I have to wear a brace trying to keep it straight. My right arm always shakes and my right hand stays clinched. I also have arthritis in my knees and I have degenerative disc disease.

Re: My Doctors are baffled!!!

Multi systems symptoms/conditions (strokes, Bell's Palsey---the face droop, unilaterial paralysis, shaking, arthitis in knees, and back degeneration) are symptoms that have occurred in people diagnosed with Lyme disease. Please keep in mind that most doctors, specialists included, do not have the tests, the expertise, nor the education to diagnose and to treat this condition, so if you're interested in learning more, you may have to do alot of homework first.

Of course, other conditions can occur with other conditions...but the Bell's Palsey, the arthritic knees, and the shaking are somewhat classic (IMHO) symptoms.

Bethsheba

PS Many people with Lyme also experience jaw/tmj problems but you don't mention that.

Re: My Doctors are baffled!!!

I am with Bethsheba. When a person says doctors are baffled I must agree with start looking at things such as Lyme or some of the other bacterias. The face drop is exactly what I did...Plus problems with my knees, legs, arms. There are many people that have strokes with Lyme.

You might want to look up the symptoms for Lyme and see if it rings a bell with you.

Could also be something viral bothering you.

What types of testing have you had done concerning bacteria/viral infections?

Hope you can find some aswers soon!

Jodie

Re: My Doctors are baffled!!!

Yes Lyme disease sounds right except for the rash or red spot and fever and no tick that I know of but I have been on the antibiotics that cure Lyme disease a few times among other antibiotics. Also they have run tons of blood tests, MRIS, MRAS, EMGS, and all the other tests which all come back normal. My episodes and problems began after my last stroke which was in October of 2008. I do also have high blood pressure, high chloresterol and borderline on being diabetic. I recently have lost 35 lbs which has helped my blood sugar greatly. I am now at my optimal weight. I also quit smoking almost 3 yrs ago.

Some say less than 30 percent get/remember a rash.....and Lyme can be transmitted in the placenta (before birth), and they now think by spiders, mites, gnats, and other insects. They think it can be transmitted sexually, and theoretically, it may be transmitted by blood transfusion...which may explain why not everyone gets/remembers seeing a tick.

I'm afraid, it just isn't that simple...and I'm not sure that Lyme can be "cured". I would suggest more reading.

Tests are unreliable...and the test that is the most reliable, you apparently haven't had.

Looking for Lyme and the other bugs that sometimes accompany it, is not a simple process...if it were more doctors would know what tests to use, how to diagnose it, and how to treat it...but they don't. That is why I am suggesting that you do some serious reading (not just a post here and there) about this condition...too many myths abound, and then there is just too much we don't know.

I trusted my specialists for 4 years only to be crippled physically, mentally, and ruined financially....all of which could have been avoided if I had simply believed the side effects listed on the package insert of my medication and NOT what my doctors told me.

Doctors, scientists, and health care providers do not know everything...if they did, we wouldn't have people posting on these boards.
