Hi, I've noticed that I've lost some weight (8 lbs, there about) under a year. I'm not sure if I should call it loss of apetite but it takes me forever to eat food. Near 45 mins. I've had this problem for over 2 years now. Otherwise I'm fine. Any idea what could be wrong with me? I'm worried about the weight loss. I did a barium meal test and that didn't reveal anything.
Generally, a weight loss of over 10% of your total body weight without trying needs to be checked out. What makes it so hard to eat....pain on swallowing, nausea, some sensation you don't like or just plain old, slow eater? The slower you eat the less you tend to eat. It's a diet trick we use to lose weight.
Then there is nothing wrong except you like to eat slowly. And it's making you lose weight as you eat less when you eat slowly...proven fact. That's why they tell overweight people to eat very slowly.
If you don't like the fact that you eat so slow then that is different. That is a psychological problem. Means you can't control your own behavior. You don't like eating slowly but can't seem to be able to change it. There is usually a reason why and once you figure out what it is, then you can change it if you want to. Consider seeing a therapist to help you learn how to control and change your own behavior. It's a lot harder than you think it is and you should not feel any shame in doing so. Therapy is to help us change and have the life we want. Not a bad goal!
