Unhappy Trying to figure this out

Okay, so I've had this problem for several years now, but it seems to get gradually worse.

First, here is my current medical history:
Fibromyalgia
Hypothyroidism (treated)
Vitamin D deficiency (treated)
headaches
allergies
chronic diarrhea, which causes fissures
chronic chest pain and trouble breathing
history of kidney stones
to name a few, don't know if I got them all on here

medications I currently take are:
Levothyroxine
Vitamin D
Loratadine
Flonase
Tramadol as needed
No current medication changes in the last several months

So here is my biggest concern right now. So first, I am dizzy and offbalance every single day. I run into things a lot and stumble and fall frequently as well. I stutter when I talk sometimes (that has started in the last year or so) and I notice what I would call "body stutters" where I try to do something and it's like I repeat the motion several times before I can actually accomplish it. For instance sometimes when I go to start walking I will place my foot three or four, or more times before I actually take the step and walk. Or sometimes when I try to get up, I may start to get up, fall back down and do that multiple times before getting up.

I also notice increasing periods of time where I don't remember what I'm doing. Sometimes forget where I even am for just a moment. I also am extremely weak a vast majority of the time.

Anyone else experience something like this? What in the world could be causing this? I used to just "live with it" but it is starting to drive me nuts!

Any help is greatly appreciated!
Liz

sounds very much like my sister, who has multiple sclerosis. you should definitely ask your doctor about that.

Re: Trying to figure this out

Hey Liz!

Is what you are experiencing now related to any of your other illnesses that you mentioned? How long has that been going on for? I wish I could offer some advice...because I went through a similar bout last year. I came down with a serious respiratory infection, and it went through my whole workplace. Everyone else started to get better, but I developed worse symptoms. Almost all of the ones you described above...I would go to speak and the words would come out backwards no matter how carefully I tried to form them, the stumbling...I even half fell down a flight of stairs. My extremeties felt numb, and I couldnt concentrate on even the most basic of task. I started to think lymes disease, I made several trips to the ER and they shrugged it off as I was being overreactive. My Family doctor ran several tests(west nile virus, lyme disease, diabetes) and came up empty handed. I had taken so many antibiotics I developed thrush in my throat. I would be fine for a few days then it would come back and strike at me out of nowhere. Lasting for days at a time, then repeating the cycle. After about 2 months I started feeling better, but with no answers whatsoever. Is it periodic for you? Or does it stick with you all the time? I'm having some similar symptoms this year, but am going to my doctor soon. I will post if he says anything useful...I really hope you can feel better and get to the bottom of this, I hate to see people in pain, and having to "deal" with something they shouldnt have to.

God Bless,
Josh

hello Josh,

Sorry to hear you've had to deal with tough stuff as well in the health department. None of the current health problems should be causing this, although I found out at the doctor today of a probably diagnosis of lupus as well based on my bloodwork this year. My bouts are a bit different sounding than yours. My extremities do get numb and tingly frequently, but not constantly, I also now am experiencing blurred vision. My concentration problems are that i actually disappear for minutes at a time in my head. I was talking to someone today and noticed they were staring oddly at me, I then realized they were talking to me and I was off in la-la land somewhere. and it was weird because I had literally no thoughts at all, like my brain just went caput for a moment. They generally come in bouts although the dizziness and weakness is constant, everyday.

I went to the doc today about it and she is ordering an MRI and a visit to the eye doctor. If nothing there I'm off to the neurologist. So I guess we'll see if we find anything. Hopefully at least something we can treat.

Thanks,
Liz

Re: Trying to figure this out

I just want to point out that the symptoms sound like Lyme disease---but mostly

that tests for lyme are notoriously inaccurate.

Something like 46%-58% accurate. So--you can pretty much flip a coin.

Also, problems with the tests:

1) test for antibodies in the blood, it is reliant on a well-functioning immune system; and

2) test the blood only, when lyme bacteria move quite quickly out of the blood and into other preferred cells and systems in the body (nervous system, musculo-skeletal, heart, thyroid et al).

Unfortunately, you'd need to find yourself a lyme-literate physician to rule lyme out or rule it in. Most physicians are woefully un-educated about the current reality of the disease. the fact that a doctor is looking to a test for diagnosis is not a good sign.
Just ask on the lyme board to find a LLMD in your area.

ticks carry a dozen other pathogens which only compound health problems, diagnosis and recovery....

best of luck.
