tendonitis,tried cortisone-considering zyflamend

Hello again. I'm back. My sad tale continues. I was diagnosed w/tendonitis in my shoulder per my doc and therapist around the beginning of October. therapist also said I had a little bursitis too. went to PT for 4 weeks, was released due to "reaching a plateau". and she recommended I get a cortisone shot, which I did a week later. It took about 5 days to feel 99% NORMAL!!! the best I have felt in months. went back to work and at the end of day 2 I realized it was my reaching across mid-air to type on my laptop for work that caused this. new chair w/arms STILL on the way(I'm very frustrated about my stupid company's rules (a health insurance company at that, grrrrrrr....but I digress) and I got that going before Thanksgiving....

Okay, so my pain came back and I called to see if I could get another cortisone shot since it got me nearly back to normal. doc said okay and I had the second one last Friday, now just over a week ago. she said it could take up to a week to feel the full effect. except that I have had a very different experience this go round. I felt great the next morning and a bit into the afternoon. then my arm (it's referred pain from the inflamed tendon on the inside of my arm) started to ache just awful!!! that has gotten better with each passing day but I'm still in a bit of pain.

I am now at the point that I'm ready to try something a naturalist friend recommended called Zyflamend. a natural anti-inflammatory. I've read a little bit on the web about it and it seems to help most people but not everyone. at this point I am willing to try anything. my doc said she won't inject a third time and suggested that if the problem persists that I see an ortho doc who would be able to inject right into the tendon. but after this experience in the last week I am very hesitant to do that.

so, am wondering about others' experiences w/Zyflamend. any information is greatly appreciated.

thanks so much.....

It did nothing for me. Instaflex is a similar product I've heard of lately.

does tendonitis ever go away?

I am pretty tired of being in pain. and although it's not every day, it's enough days of the last 3 or so months that it makes me wonder if it will ever go away. I'm just curious of others' experiences.

I have had an x-ray and nothing unusual showed up on it. I am, however, concerned that I might have had my second cortisone shot so soon after my first one. The second one actually made me worse, sad to say and I am still recovering from that.

oh yea, and the zyflamend made me nauseous so that didn't do any good

thanks for any help......

Have you had an MRI of your shoulder to pinpoint the exact cause of pain? If not, you need to.

My orthopedic upper extremeties specialist thought I had rotator cuff tears but the MRI shows bone spurs with Tendinopathy. I had steriod injections in both shoulders and started physical therapy today.

yea, that might be next is my guess. am seeing an orthopedic doc on 1/11. I am also planning to ask how a second cortisone shot could make me worse!! since the second one (just a month after the first...) I have done some research on the web and asked other friends w/similar issues and have discovered that it's not really advisable to give injections so close together?!?!!?!?!?!? AGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! really wish I hadn't gotten that second one, I was nearly back to normal!! in fact, when I woke up that day I nearly cancelled......ah, hindsight......

but thanks, I am likely headed to an MRI next. either that or more therapy. the icing 3 times a day and the few exercises I can do are not doing a thing sadly

Re: tendonitis,tried cortisone-considering zyflamend

I agree with the recommendation to have an MRI.

I too started in with the shoulder pain and did the PT thing first. With me though, it was my Orthopedic doc who gave me the cortisone injection after I had had x-rays and an MRI. He said the cortisone was diagnostic. The exam was diagnostic for me. I had to figure out what was causing the bursitis and tendonitis. My ortho wouldn't give me a second shot though. He wanted me to get treatment first. The first shot did wonders though. I also found that my second PT did mush better for me than the first one did.

In my case, I had a shoulder impingement causing the problems.

Good luck at your appointment.

Re: tendonitis,tried cortisone-considering zyflamend

Shoulder tendonitis is VERY stubborn to get rid of! In my case I had a slight tear in my rotator cuff (due to a course of antibiotics!). An MRI of my shoulder showed this, but my ortho doc said it was too small for him to want to operate on mine and it should heal on it's own. I did weeks of PT and a coritizone injection as well. It was about 2-3 months before I got through the worst, including ups and downs of pain. Resting the shoulder and taking anti-inflammatories is the best recommendation until you can get a full diagnosis. The visit to the ortho doc should get you some better results.

Good luck!

Re: tendonitis,tried cortisone-considering zyflamend

I tried Zyflamend for statin related myalgia. It didn't work. Ironically, it helps my headaches. I'm guessing the reason for that is that it contains green tea, and the sudden hit of caffeine works just like taking an Excedrin does (caffeine, acetaminophen and aspirin).

I tried homeopathic arnica, and that doesn't help either.

Unfortunately, ibuprofen is the only thing that works for the muscle and tendon pain. And maybe heat and message.
