Blow to head. Brain Damage?

I just bent down to pick something up and bashed my head on a table. Is a blow of this strength enough to cause brain damage. I recognise that i'm being paranoid but I have rarely bashed my forehead before and this really quite hurt.

Chances are that you did not suffer brain damage from that type of blow. If you become dizzy or disoriented or vomit, have someone take you to the emergency room.

Brain damage is a lot harder to cause than most people think.

Srivera is correct though, if you should experience symptoms like she described, they could be signs of a concussion.

Re: Blow to head. Brain Damage?

Hi. I've been struggling to concentrate since this happened. I've also suffered temporary hearing loss since this happened and that may have contributed. I keep on doing daft things like shampooing my hair three times today, my sense of balance is poor and I have been struggling with prioritising and general concentration. Also, Ive been very short of breath, which is unusual as i'm a healthy person.

Re: Blow to head. Brain Damage?

Often with a concussion you will have unequal pupils, vomiting, excessive sleepiness. However, I did hit my head hard a few times through out the years. Recently I had a brain scan because I lost my vision in one eye for a few minutes. Unrelated to the vision loss, it was discovered I have unusual calcifications in the brain with a few possible reasons, one of them being a trauma. So, yes injury can happen and I think that was a reasonable question. Now I have to have scans every six months to see if there are changes to rule out if this was something I was born with or as a result of injury.

If you think you may have suffered a concussion or a serious injury, why don't you go to a local hospital and get your condition checked -- rather than fret and worry about it??

Re: Blow to head. Brain Damage?

Going to your doctor would either..

A - Find a problem and do something about it or
B - Set your mind at ease.

Either would go a long way towards resolving your current problems, so I relly believe you should see your doctor..and try not to worry so much.

Brain damage via a blow to the head is a lot harder to cause than most people imagine.

Re: Blow to head. Brain Damage?

I'm fine now. Like one of the replies said, it was more a case of stress from ear ache that was creating these symptoms. Luckily, the stress is beginning to subside now.

Re: Blow to head. Brain Damage?

Thanks. On a further note. I have recently been told by a doctor that I have suffered no hearing loss after frequent noise exposure. I want to know if it is only the patient who can tell if their hearing has lessened?

Also, I swallowed some shampoo and got deodrant in my eye recently. Can these cause damage. I have had a blocked throat since swallowing shampoo.

Thanks
