Unhappy Pain in right leg and thigh

I have been experiencing pain mostly in my right leg starting from the top of my thigh usually down to my knee, but sometimes all the way down to my foot.

It began happening on and off a for a couple of months, and usually once I'd get up and walk about it'll soon go away, however for the past couple of days it hasn't gone away at all, and has been very uncomfortable sleeping at all.

My boyfriend sometimes massages it which makes it feel a lot better, which makes him assume that it is something to do with bad circulation? If so, is there any way I could find this out for certain without going to the Doctors? and any ways to help ease my pain and make sleeping easier?

Any ideas will help. Thank you.

Re: Pain in right leg and thigh

I don't think it's circulation, it sounds like nerve pain. And that type of pain comes from your lower back, around the L4/5 level. Try sleeping on your back with several pillows uner your knees to take the presure off of your back and to elevate your legs some.

Re: Pain in right leg and thigh

ahh123: check into seeing if it's the sciatica nerve. Do you walk alot? If so, walking will aggravate it. How about seeing a chiropractor?

Re: Pain in right leg and thigh

92261, I do walk a fair amount, I live on top of a hill which I have to walk up and down if I wanna get anywhere due to lack of a frequent bus. What would happen if it was the sciatica nerve? Is it bad?

Re: Pain in right leg and thigh

ahh123: I think alot of people live with siatica nerve pain. A friend of mine just had to have her back (lower) operated on and she said it started with sciatica nerve pain. She was seeing a chiropractor and it didn't end up helping and she opted for the operation. I don't really know alot about it. Look it up on the web and maybe someone else can explain it for you. I know it has something to do with pressure on the discs in the lower back.

Re: Pain in right leg and thigh

Tulsey: I asked my neurologist about the pain I'm having in my left thigh and down my leg. He said it's tendons and could be from poor posture. He talked about a piece of chicken where you get that hard piece in the leg that you can't eat. It's like that in your hip and the tendons are connected to it and by putting heat on it or getting a massage helps to relieve the pain. If you've got extra weight on the thighs that probably doesn't help matters either. We are sitting down too much these days on computers and not exercising enough either and that'll cause pain and strain in those areas.

Thank you so much. I have been going to the phsio and getting acupuncture. It has helped me a lot. A couple of days ago I had to go to a mass where I had to sit on the floor with legs crossed. I was having trouble folding my right leg. I could not sit in that position for more than 2 minutes. I told my physio and she gave me a couple of exercises to help with this leg.
I have not been the same since early July.

Re: Pain in right leg and thigh

I have suffered with this nerve pain for almost 2 years. I did some exercises, went to the pool, physiotherapy and other things but the pain did not go away. Now i am using dr scholls insoles for lower back pain with shock guard technology. this might look strange but this insoles are helping me a lot.

Thanks Vasilaos,
I will buy a pair if the pain returns. I was told that my pain was related to disalignment of the last vetebras....the physiotherapist was actually able to see the muscles been pulled to one side thus causing the nerves to crunch.
