Painless bump on finger...

Hello, I noticed a painless bump on my first finger and don't have a clue as to what it is. You really can't see it but I can definately feel it. It's a little past the knuckle on my finger and it's on the inside and like I said, no matter how hard I press on it, it doesn't hurt. I don't know how long it's been there, but I just noticed it today. Any ideas as to what it could be? Thanks to all who reply.

Re: Painless bump on finger...

ppb0101: It could be a ganglion cyst. They're caused by repetitive motion. Alot of times people get them on their tendons on the hand. They usually go away on their own but it they don't they can be operated on. In the olden days they used to slam a book on the cyst to pop it to make it go away. If it doesn't hurt then leave it alone.

Re: Painless bump on finger...

Ganglion cysts form on tendons and you do have tendons in your fingers but ganglions tend to form more on the back of the hand. It is possible but it should hurt the movement of your finger as it constricts the movement of the tendon in that small area.

However, good old plain osteoarthritis, the arthritis of aging, tends to form lumps and bumps all around your finger joints. They are painless and just there, usually near the joints and sometimes on them but they don't hurt and usually don't even interfere with motion. They start very small so you feel but not see them and then will slowly get bigger. And they can start young if you've ever had an injury to that area or like me, you knit and crochet. All sorts of handiwork can cause the bumps to start earlier.

Bet you anything that is what you are feeling. I have them all over my fingers.

Ask your doc the next time you're in.

Re: Painless bump on finger...

Looking for an answer to this also, I had one two years ago (still have it) but i drained it with en needle @ a doctor's two years ago, since then i haven't seen a doctor ...

Its till there, doesnt hurt me or bother me...
but i want to get the rid of mines!

I have seen the "book slamming method" on youtube, and it seems to work..

but i got a Cyst in an odd place!

on the inner wrist (not on the back of my hand but the side as if i were to be looing at my palm), i dont wanna slam a book onto my wrist and break it or cause more damage...

Is there another way to remove it, other than operation?
