Well, according to the package insert, if you miss 2 active pills in a row in week one or week two of your pack, you must take 2 pills on the day you remember and 2 pills the next day. Then take 1 pill until you finish the pack. If you miss 2 active pills in week three, keep taking one pill every day until Sunday and throw out the pack and start a new pack that same day. If you are a day 1 starter, throw out the rest of the pill pack and start a new pack that same day. A back-up method of birth control must be used for those 7 days otherwise there is a high risk of becoming pregnant.
So to answer your question in a round about way, no it's probably not harmful, but your friend is more likely to become pregnant if another back-up method of birth control is not used. It is likely that she is feeling like crap because her body went from low hormones to sudden increase in hormones in her system. However, it might be wise for her to talk to her doctor to make sure it is normal, especially if she keeps feeling this way. I would also recommend for to read and become familiar with the insert that comes with the birth control pack, it might help answer her questions. I hope this helps answer your question and that your friend feels better soon. Take care!
[This message has been edited by skip_to_my_lou (edited 04-25-2002).]
Actually, what you do with reference to missed pills can differ HUGELY depending what pill you're taking. The majority of them do, however, follow the seven day rule (use other proctection e.g. johnnies for seven days after your missed pill).
