I am a 35 year old male who has no previous history of medical problems and was in otherwise good health but for the last 5 weeks I have been feeling awful. It started with tingling in my left elbow (funny bone) then the fingers in that hand, a week later I was having the same feelings in my right arm and hand with fingers going numb for no apparent reason. The week after that and until now I have been having aches in my legs, especially lower legs and feet and stiff ankles. The pain almost feels like the nerves or tendons running down inside my legs are being stretched !
I have also been having headaches almost everyday and an extreme thirst, I wake in the morning and my lips are white and so dry. I seem to be be drinking water a whole lot more than I used to. A peculiar thing I noticed is that there has been a sudden increase in hair growth on my arms, I have hairs growing in places that I have never had before (backs of arms and biceps) some up to 2m long. I have also had 3 or 4 days in the last month where i have felt so fatigued that all I have wanted to do is sleep all day. I lost appetite for a while as my stomach always felt full and was somewhat bloated or swollen however my appetite seems to be returning to normal now. The tingling in my arms is less frequent but I still have incredibly aching feet and legs.
Does anyone have any idea what might be going on with me ???
Okay I have my blood tests back, everything appears normal apart from some worrying issues.. it appears that my hemoglobin is low (129 g/L) and I have moderate lymphocytosis (with smear cells present) indicated by a raised lymphocyte count. My test results have been referred to a pathologist for further examination.
Anyone have any idea what could be causing this along with my symptoms ?
Ok just to follow up on this incase it helps anyone else with similar symptoms... I was diagnosed as having a primary CMV or Cytomegalovirus infection (confirmed by avidity testing) from within 3 months.
