I have too much energy; can i stop/reduce this?

My energy levels have always been really high, but where Iíve put up with it in the past, Iíve got sick of it because its often annoying, embarrassing and lots of hassle. Iím hoping there is something I can do to stop it, or if not reduce it.

When I sit down my legs have move up and down really fast and the more I eat the worse it gets. I canít get too sleep without drumming my fingers for a bit, no matter how tired I am.

Thanks ever so much for anyoneís help.

Have you had your thyroid level checked? If your thyroid is high you will often have alot of excess energy. You might want to check out the thyroid board here as there are some great folks there. I hope you can find some relief.

Re: I have too much energy; can i stop / reduce this?

my thyroid is under active but i don't take an pills for it. i did spoke to my doctor about the pills because i was thinking about taking them but she said that i would eat more if i take them. i eat loads of food and i don't really like it, but i would take the pills if i ate less.

Re: I have too much energy; can i stop/reduce this?

You could also be evaluated for ADHD, this is a frequent cause of excessive energy and insomnia. One test you can run is to drink some coffee or other caffeinated beverage, without too much added sugar. If you either calm down or feel sleepy, or even if you notice an enhanced ability to focus (is reading/writing more accurate, can you study better?), this may mean you have ADHD. It's odd how feeling tired from caffeine and noticing enhanced focus would seem to point in different directions, but either one or both are frequently reported by those with ADHD. For normal people, I find the usual reported effect is simply "waking up" or just getting a slight lift in mood.
