Choosing a doctor who can do all or most

What is the best way to go about doing this? I go to a small medical facility where I only get to see the Nurse Practicioner, not the doctor who is there. She consults with the doctor but that is it. But is this how it is now a days? What happened to the doctor coming in the room to see you.

I'm also wanting to change because this np only sends me to other doctors for any issue I have. I asked about about my bloating she wants me to get a colonoscopy, I mention my heavy periods she wants me to see someone for that. I just don't know where to draw the line as to what is necessary, especially since I have to pay for all of these. I just need a doctor who knows something. I did go to the guy who does the colonoscopy and all he did was ask me questions about my history and tell me about the test for $250!
