Consistently for a few years now I have had a slight fluid leak from my navel....about once twice a month very slight but stinky and some times a little tainted with blood.

Never gone away or gotten worse....other wise feel fine

Any thoughts?

Have you ever had it checked by a Dr.? It could be a small infection or even Candida...a yeast infection. I seriously wouldn't fool around with it, have it checked. Make sure you keep it clean and dry.

its come and gone for quite a while....by time I get to Dr. it will be gone again.

never anything much just small clear or slightly bloody discharge but gone within a day or so....not to return for a week or two, to a month.

I seriously would suggest when and if it flares again to go to the Dr. and let them see it while it is a flare. Hard for them to diagnose if it's gone. Also think if you have an Umbilical Hernia it could happen as well if in the right area.
