high hemoglobin and hematocrits

I am a 54 year old male that takes testosterone injections. Before I started the injections my hemoglobin was 17.4. I donated blood and it was still 21 and then down to 19 and my hematocrits were 55. My doctor doesn't seem to think it is the testosterone causing it since it was high before I started the injections so I am seeing a hematologist next week. I don't live in a high altitude climate or smoke and was tested negative for sleep apnea even though I do snore like crazy. Any thoughts?
