STomache spasms and back pains!

It all started with my left upper abdomin bothering me, it would tighten up from time to time, after I took a antiobotic and had a allergic reaction, it caused the left side to spasm. I went to the hospital they did a CT scan and it was normal they thought it was IBS. I scheduled a appt with PCP, they scheduled a ultrasound, it came back normal. A few days went by and the pain shifted from the left around my side and into my back like into my shoulder blades with faint pains to the right, it was REALLY weird. The dr prescribed Dicyclomine and said will see how it does. In the meantime I made a appt with a specialist and he scheduled a colonscopy and ECG?? and those both came back fine. He gave me nexium and said let see how you do with the dicyclomine an nexium. To date I have REALLY BAD like stomach spasm that radiate into my back. I am like how is possible for everything to show normal but I am in so much pain. I have to starve myself to feel fine, but know this is not good on my body so I eat, it doesnt matter if it's soup, whatever my back muscles tighten up REALLY bad. Someone help if you have had these symptoms!!! I am tired of being told its all normal.

Re: STomache spasms and back pains!

Did they check your gallbladder> That often radiates to other places especially the back and to the opposite side. Feel better soon!

Re: STomache spasms and back pains!

Thats what all my family and friends say it's more then likely my gallbladder. I have had a CT scan of the upper and lower abdomin and a ultrasound of the upper and lower abdomin and they both came back as normal. But all my symtoms say its my gallbladder. I will be bugging my specialist office on Monday, trying to see whats the next step. It's very stressful. I went out with friends this evening and could not even enjoy myself I was in so much pain. I am not a pain pill person but I will need something other then over the counter to deal with the pain, until they figure out what it is. Thanks for your advice.

Re: STomache spasms and back pains!

I understand your frustration. Do you get diareha with your spasms? I am not sure what the one drug they gave you is for, do you happen to know?. I understand Nexium is for the stomach acid, but what about the other one.? I am usually constipated, but went awhile with a bout of spasms under the right and left ribs then 6 hours later I would have a loose stool. It was horrible and very painful! Fiber choise tabs helps but it will give you gas at first. My Dr. perscribe a med for spasms that slows down the contractions and some kind of fiber which helps whether you are constipated or have loose stools. I am now seeing a integrated health Dr. to look for vitamen defincencys. I now take fish oil and Vit. D. My level was at 10. I am starting to feel better. Keep us posted on your condition. Try to track what you eat. I did have my gallbladder out in Feb. and that helped some.

You are sooo right about the gallbladder. I hate it when tests don't show everything. You could have sledge in it, which is one step before stones. Track the times you eat, what you eat and when your symptoms occur and give that to your Dr.

The Dicyclomin is a medicine they prescribe for IBS. It helps calm my stomache but does not stop it from hurting. I am in the process of journaling so I can pin point when the attacks come on. I am just starting to have a normal stool, for awhile I was severely constipated and then diareaha. It's weird cause even when I am not having pains every so often my mid back I feel tightening, it's not my actual back muscles??? I am hoping soon they will figure out whats going on, it's kinda of annoying. Thanks for your post. I will keep you informed.

Re: STomache spasms and back pains!

I just wanted to bring everyone up to date with me. I had the Hilda scan done and my ER was 20%. I was referred to a surgeon. He explained that the HILDA is not the most favorite test when there is no signs of gallstones. He said he can bet about 85-90% it is my gallbladder but can't assure it is it. I asked what would be my next step if I chose not to have surgery, he said I would basically have to deal with it being that i have had a ton of test. I chose to have it removed being that I cant deal with all these symptoms. My mother and three of my sisters had to get theirs removed. He also explaned that sometimes there are baby gallstones that do not show up on the ultrasound. So Monday morning I will have surgery. I am REALLY nervous being that I have NEVER had surgery and I am praying this will clear all my issues up! I am open to talk to anyone about there digestive issues. It can be VERY depressing and frustrating when all the test come back normal. I think overall I am making the best decision if I wait I believe later on it would need to come out. I can answe any questions for anyone. Thanks for everyones postings!
