Swelling, shortness of breath, and...

What could swelling, shortness of breath, dizziness, some pressure in my chest and lightheaded be?

I went to my doctor and she WOULD NOT listen to me. She said oh your hands and feet are swollen because your hot. Um? Ok. I tried to ask about the other symptoms but she RUSHED me out the office because she has overbooked for the day apparently. I get winded from just standing up. When i'm laying down I swear i'm going to suffocate sometimes, it's getting ridiculous. I'm only 21 I shouldn't be feeling so sick

And I am not pregnant...though I am EXTREMELY FATIGUED!

Re: Swelling, shortness of breath, and...

How much swelling are we talking about? How long has it been going on? Did anyone check your pulse, blood pressure etc during the appointment? Did she examine you at all?

Re: Swelling, shortness of breath, and...

Where exactly is the swelling besides your hands and feet and how long has it been going on? When was the last time you had any blood work done?

My hands and feet get a bit swollen if it's really hot out but if this is a constant thing and your that fatigued it needs investigating.

Sounds to me like you need a new Dr. Too bad she over booked herself, that's not your problem. Your her patient and you need to have your health concerns be a priority. Don't forget..she is working for you, that is what she gets paid for!

Now that i think abt it she did not actually examine me, she pushed my leg, realized it did indeed dent and then said "well you do have some edema" I really wanted to kick her...but i was too tired to do so. Oh and did i mention i passed out in her office and she still didn't care to examine me, she had her nurse bring me a coke and that was it.

Pitting edema (the dents) and shortness of breath is a combination that should be investigated. Make an appointment with a different doctor, insist that you need to be seen promptly. If it gets worse before you can do that, just go to the ER.

Thank you, and now I have a wonderful new symptom to add to my list (low blood sugar) and the sad part is my doctor is a hospital doctor (can't think of the term) he practice is directly connected to the hospital (forgive me for not knowing how to explain it) and now I have to wait in order to change doctors with my insurance

Re: Swelling, shortness of breath, and...

Oh brother something else to add to the list. Sounds like the Dr. is an intern? Hopefully your able to get to a Dr. of your choice soon for some answers. Have you been feeling any better at all or gotten any answers?

Wishing you the best and keep us posted...JJ...

honestly i feel worse. I work 12hr shifts and I'm not allowed to sit or eat when i need to, so my bf suggested that I take off for a while. I'm having trouble concentrating on my summer courses and I feel down right awful Oh and come to find out my "doctor" is just a PA, I mean I'm not knocking her, but she seems to just not get the severity of what I feel. But thanks a million

Re: Swelling, shortness of breath, and...

I think your bf is right..some time off just might be what you need. Of course the low blood sugar would cause the dizzness and light headedness but I don't get the swelling or the chest pressure.

Yes I hear you about the PA. My Dr. has one and when I do see her although very nice, I don't seem to feel she as comfortable as seeing my Dr.

Get yourself some rest and please keep us posted...JJ...
