Question Hernia

Hello, I have recently noticed a small "bump" in my hip flexor area. This "bump" is below the skin and occasionally causes slight pain/discomfort. I was thinking that this could possibly be a hernia. I am aware that a hernia is a weakened area in the muscle wall where the intestines or fat can breach through but i was wondering if there was a way to tell for sure what it was. Also i was wondering if there is a way to treat a hernia without actually heading to the doctors and undergoing surgery. Any information would help. Thank you.
