Chest cramping. Help!

Ok, for the past week or so I've been getting this feeling like intense cramping in my chest. It happens once everyday for a few hours. I take Nortriphyline for stomach pain and my GI said it doesn't seem like it's related to it, so I went to my normal doctor today. "Hmmm, I honestly have no idea" is what she said. She says it doesn't sound like it's anything to do with my heart.

I got the pain again right after I was there and was driving home. It feels like a lightening storm in my chest. I took some Midol cause it's good for stomach cramping so I thought it would help. I was lying down and trying to sleep and my heart race kind of picked up and I literally felt like someone reached through my back and poked the back of my heart like 3 times. It was the weirdest thing in the world. It took a few minutes for my heart to calm down again.

What could this be? My doctor said to watch it for a while and see if it's related to anything and if it keeps going we can do an EKG. I just wanna know why it's doing this

I don't think Midol is a good bet. If it's related to anxiety, the caffeine will make it worse, if it's digestive, the pain reliever could make it worse. It could be esophageal spasms, or it could be something else entirely.

Hey BetterUnknown,

I have been diagnosed with severe anxiety a few years ago, and I know for a fact with me, if I am stressed out and worried about something..my heart can race, it feels like my chest is cramping up, it can feel like someone is taking a knitting needle and just shoving it through my chest area, I get a really upset stomach...just to name a few.

After a while it will just go away for a bit...until I start worrying about something again...or move.. or get upset over something...

It really sounds like you could be suffering from some sort of anxiety.

If it is anxiety..then you might want to try to stay away from caffine and chocolate...two things that are bad for anxiety. Make sure to try and get lots of rest, because the more tired you are, the more likely you are to have an "attack" so to speak.

...another thing, when this started in the beginning..before I was "diagnosed" with it, I truely thought something was wrong...because the pain is so real, and is real..but they could never find anything physically wrong....if you havent already, you should ask your doctor about anxiety....

I hope you can find out whats going on, and get the help you need

Re: Chest cramping. Help!

That only about thinking it's anxiety is the fact that my meds are often used on people with anxiety to help them. So if I had it, I wouldn't feel it, would I? Cause my meds would treat it? It's also at like random times too. Like when I was driving home, when I was laying down to sleep, etc. I don't feel worried about something when it happens...is it possibly for it to just come without worrying about something?

I'm not a doctor, but even when I was on meds, I still had the symptoms of anxiety, and attacks....maybe there is a chance that the meds aren't working as well as they have been, and you need to see about getting a higher dose, or new meds... something to consider asking your doctor about anyways...

And if you have anxiety bad enough...then it can come up without any "worrying" going on......anxiety attacks can happen at anytime, and anywhere.... and if by chance you need new meds, or a higher dose, then this could definitely be a result of that...

Good luck with everything
